I have changed the title of this thread to get as much input as I can.

Look, here is the deal...

I am willing to set up a monthly meeting but I don't want to spend a month arranging it. (I'm being a bit sarcastic I know:D)

When I look for a place for us to meet I take a number of things into account. The first one is Parking. The last thing I want to do is set up a meeting or a dinner at a location where someones car gets damaged. Next I look for something for us to do at the meeting. You all have suggested we have different speakers each month. If anyone has ideas of who to have come talk, let me know (or set it up yourself). The next thing is food. This is the hardest because we have a very diverse group. I know we all get tired of the same place each month but If I am going to go to another location I will drive down to the new location and check out the parking around the time of the meeting first, to see what we will be up against. If it is OK then I make contact with the restaruant and see if they can deal with a group of our size and if they will accept seperate checks (I know that is not a big swinger but it sure helps at the end of the meal). Most places want a commitment as to the size of the group which requires follow up after you all respond to my notification. Then I figure out the directions to the location and generate the Post to Prime and the e-mail to the e-mail lists.

I know it sound like I am whinning:( (I guess I am) but as you should be able to tell this all takes time! I am willing to spend some time just not all my time.;)

Autobacs and Red Robin has been an easy solution to most all of my work described above. I am willing to change things but I sure would like some help! I think it is good we have a meeting at a regular time so people can learn to count on it. I have suggested maybe trying to get Pizza delivered to Autobac's Team room (I need to confirm that they will allow that). This proposal has it's own problems (how many of what kind of pizza and drinks, how to divide the cost equitably, etc.) I also think the idea of Acapulco's is a possibility (we could walk from Autobacs) or I can even suggest a place in Seal beach where we have had meetings before (the Crab Pot). Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention, the location needs to be convienient to most everyone in a VERY LARGE area!

Again, this is YOUR meeting and I am willing to do a reasonable amount of work to set it up. I understand I can't please all the people all the time. I just want to please as many as I can as much as I can:D

I will get off my soap box now:p and let you all comment:cool:

Steve,
Please allow me to be the first to comment on our situation...DAMNIT, YOU'RE DOING A HELL OF A JOB!!!!!:D You just let me know what I can do to help. It is true we are a bunch of parking lot snobs and to combine that with variety of foods, it is kind of hard. Your solution of eating at Autobac is a great idea. However, I doubt that would be possible--I just don't see that they will allow that. So my suggestion would be to have our dinner at a chosen location after the scout and take a quick cruise down the boulevard or something to work off the yummy. We all can vote on a few restaurant a couple of weeks in advance and work on our drive route. If we have a speaker, we can always use the conference room at Autobac.

Steve,

I echo yellowpad's sentiments of a great job you've been doing for us. As the meeting is for us owners, I like to see we get the most out of them. I got tons of great information and help through the prime site, and I am hoping that the monthly meets are an extenstion of prime, where we can talk face to face with each other, vendor, speaker, or whoever, and gain additional insights, hands on experiences with products, topics, or questions that are hard to express through words.

As for food, great company, I think that's just a bonus. Now, how about a hot topic for our next meeting, "More Power". For us non-technical people, I want a little more, but have always worried about damaging engine, or reduce life of the car. What's the options I have for least amount of modification with most amount of power, other than H/I/E.

Or, would someone like to help me install a new antenna, as I have no idea where the radio reception wire is, or how to 'tap' into it :)

Any other topics or suggestions??

I second and third that.

Did Autobacs actually say they prohibit car clubs from having food in that upper room?

If not, another suggestion is to pick restaurants that deliver and have them bring it to us while we meet at Autobacs. We'll have their menu and call in our individual orders and we'll socialize while they cook our food. Heck, we kill time out in the parking lot anyways before we go into Red Robin to grub.

As far as speakers go, Larry anyone? :D
I'd get him but he seems to have gone beyond AWOL. ;)

Steve, It's a very hard to job keep everyone happy, you have gone the extra mile, thanks for your effort. Maybe if you got some input from the group more would be happy :D . Look forward to the next meeting.....wherever it is.

Steve,

I think it is obvious that you have put in a lot of you own time on setting up events for us all to enjoy and we all appreciate it.

Food is always the last thing on my mind when comes to these types of gatherings. I just want to talk to people about what they have done to their cars.

On top of looking for outside speakers, we actually have a fairly talented group of people here. How about...

1> Asking volunteer(s) each month to go over his/her car. Tell us the history of the car, the mods that you have done to it, why you did them and how they helped you.

2> Driving school w/o the track - may be we can ask people like Alex V. or Aaron C. to talk about their track experience. Go over techniques, car dynamics, racing lines, what to prepare and expect.... (If you haven't rode in Alex's car on the track, you are missing out!)

3> Do minor installs that take less than 30 mins, like antenna, air filter, shift boot or wipers.... if we can make use of Autobacs service area.

Great idea!!! ;) I'll volunteer my antenna, hehehe.

To utilize autobac's service area, I would guess there may be insurance related issues that may prohibits non-employees to work in there, but doesn't hurt to ask. Or, to make it mutually beneficial for autobacs and us, if someone is having services done there, or installing mods..etc., we can be around the car watching, and learning while the tech is working on the car.

Steve
The place call Speed Zone in city of industry might be a place to meet. I know from Monday to Thursday they are not busy and lots parking(close to my house too:D ). They have go-kart, food and video games.

Thanks guys! I didn't say what I did to get sympathy or pats on the back. I was just trying to let you know that it is not a job that can be done in a couple of minutes.

All that being said, I haven't responded for a couple of days as I have been trying to make contact with Autobacs.

Today I succeded and asked if they would be willing to allow us to order in food in their team room (upstairs with the plasma TV and 5.1 surrond sound system, DVD ans VCR player:D ) Well, they said it was not only OK but THEY WANT TO BUY US PIZZA AND SODA AT OUR NEXT MEETING  :D  :p :) :D

They are also willing to allow us to have a car or two in their shop (even up on a lift if necessary) to allow us to show off our mods :D :D

The only thing they want from us is to help them figure out how they can stock stuff we want to buy (they will work with us to set up group buys for $$ go fast parts:eek:  :D

I need to work out some of the details with them but in the mean time I need you all to decide who's car mods we want to analyze and what we might want them to help us buy.

So Mark your calender NOW January 8, 2004 6:30pm at Autobacs!

You may also want to bring a few DVD's or Videos (I am bringing the NSX Files on DVD and a few choice videos of past drives and the DVD of Le Mans with Steve Mc Queen:cool: )

Can you guys handle FREE PIZZA;) :p :D

Steve, If we are going to the City of Industry maybe we could get Cal Coast to join in? Sounds great!

 Jan 8th--I can't waittttt!!! that is tooOO long!!!! wow..free pizza, movie, group buy, and the lift? what is next? line our cars up infront of autobac? Everyone, can you see me do the happy dance? hahahahahaa :D

You may call me at home.

Steve,
I think it is great how you try to change the meetings up a bit. That was one of the problems alot of the members had with the meetings I used to attend. That and we never did anything.

Anyway, as soon as my car gets out of the shop I would like to start attending the meetings with you guys in OC. Do you guys have a schedule of meets?

Thanks
