Here's a good one... We all enjoy our vehicles, right? But let's say the Obama Gov't thinks that we're not saving enough. So Obama proposes to have the government intervene even more in the free market by instituing "price signals" to force us to use less.

Now, don't worry if you're "poor" because Obama will make sure you aren't affected. Just the so called rich. More "spreading the wealth" I suppose.

So, let's say gas costs $2.50 per gallon because that is what going world-wide rate is for oil (plus existing taxes we already pay). Obama deems that's not enough to curb our consumption. Particularly since the price has declined A LOT since the summer of 2008. So, Lord Barry in his ultimate wisdom declares that there will be arbitrary "price signals" to jack up the price of gas - so that we will be better off.

I sure hope you Obama supporters are sure of what you're doing. :frown:

Just another example of Obama having no faith in the free market to let prices find their own level. This is the same stupid-think that got us into the current financial mess. They couldn't rely on lenders and the free market to determine who was able to afford a mortgate..... Noooooo.... that just not fair. The Dems, with Carter had to create these bogus government entities that perverted the free market and forced lenders to give loans to those who wouldn't otherwise qualify and who were high risk. Of course, it didn't make financial and good business sense, but who cared about that?

If they only would have taken a fraction of the money we've wasted on such crap programs and used it for education - at least that would have been somewhat better.

The costs of this financial meltdown and higher energy prices caused by real or perceived shortages will pale in comparison to those caused by the fallacy of human induced global warming. Mark my words.

Man made global warming would have to exist though for that to be true. :)

For the most part price drives consumption. $4.00 gas consumption went down. Nothing works better. Fuel efficiency standards have done nothing. Even with that said I don't agree with the government getting into setting prices it's been done and it does not work. We will never run out of oil it will just become to expensive to buy or use because of environmental reasons.

Maybe we could ask Iraq et. al. for our money back?

Don't worry Jimbo, I'm sure you're not to blame for any of GWB's failures because you were sure of what you were doing too.

For Obama supporters all roads lead to GWB.

Ain't that the truth!!! That way they don't have to admit to themselves that their dem reps in washingtion had nothing to do with what when wrong, didn't get done or has failed. Now who's been in control of both house and senate for the past 2 yrs?

I typically only follow legislation that correlates with my job and I was surprised the democrats failed to renew the alternative energy subsidies fairly recently. Some solar stocks got smashed on that one. If you are going to distort prices, that's at least the most efficient way to do it.

Yeah, 2 years is going to have a big effect, right? Did you forget about the previous 6 years????

hmmm... and who had warned congress about the fanny/freddy looming crisis which is at the heart of our current crisis and who wasn't willing to admit that there was even a problem?
