Is it common for the o2 sensors to go bad on the late model NSX's? I'm looking to purchase a 2k model w/22k miles. The dealer is telling me that the ck engine light is coming on and they have diagnosed it as a faulty o2 sensor. Is this somethin I should be alarmed about or is it common?

Personally, I wouldn't even think about purchasing a vehicle with an engine control problem (like an O2 sensor). If the dealer is trying to sell this car w/o fixing this, then I would stay away from that dealer.

On the other hand, if they had fixed it already then they wouldn't have bothered to mention it at all in which case the prospective owner would be in the dark.

My concern is why it failed. It may have simply been a bad sensor that failed early. Or, it may be that something killed it. Contaminates in the exhaust such as oil, unburned fuel (extreme rich condition), coolant, etc. can damage the sensor and be a sign of more serious problems. These are all unlikely but should not be ignored. They are also often damaged when removed for header install and other exhaust service. I'd want a complete checkup and OBDII scan after replacement.

You would think that a dealer can not sell a car that has emission control problem. You may want to look into what the EPA says. After the purchase you are responsible for getting an emission test b4 the registration is issued. Most newer cars have warrantees on emission control equipment for 5 years or more years and 80,000 or more miles well beyond the regular 3-36.
Are you dealing with a Acura/Honda dealer?

Just had mine done for FREE!

My CE and TCS lights were on. Got them both fixed free under warranty at the dealer on a 95 NSX. My dealer is Reading Acura in Reading, PA. This is my second Acura and these people have always taken good care of me and my car. When I asked if it was safe to leave the car there overnight they said sure we have a special place for NSXes. I dropped it off last Thursday and picked it up today - I was out of town for the Petit Le Mans race in Atlanta. When I picked it up it was in a separate garage with a few dealer owned vehicles. I was impressed with the concern they showed for my car. This was my first NSXperience (sorry!) with Reading Acura, but now I feel comfortable having them work on the car.

About a month ago the CE and TCS lights came on in my '97 due to the O2 sensor dealie. Mine was also fixed under warranty by my local dealer, Cush Acura, even though I'm owner #3 of the car.
