Hello Everyone:
Well, continuing a tradition started 4 years ago, here’s a report from the front lines - NSXPO 2003.
Day 1 started very early, but on time at 6am. Traffic to, through, and beyond LA was pretty much as expected, but definitely could have been much worse. In fact that pretty sums up the commuting part of the day – not bad, could have been worse.
On the other hand, the portion of our trip along the coast and through the twisties from Morrow Bay to Carmel was a blast. Not only did the traffic cooperate (light, with no motor homes to slow us down) the weather cooperated making for a great drive. We enjoyed a spirited drive for the majority of the portion along the coast.
Once we turned inland to head through SFO of course it was a different story and the traffic just plain sucked. Driving through the city on the tail-end of rush-hour is not something any of us want to do again too soon. The drive across the Golden Gate Bridge was cool, but not too scenic since by the time we crossed it the fog had rolled in and it was dark outside. Still pretty cool though…
We arrived at the hotel at 7:15p, 3-stops and 575 miles after departing Irvine. We definitely had enough driving for one day. A few drinks and hotel dinner later and we called it a day.
