I recently noticed the NSX type R tire sizes:

Front 215/40 R17
Rear 255/40 R17

Seems like there is much of a discrepancy in the front vs rear...is their a purpose to this? Or is this conservative, minimalist Honda philosophy!?!?! Should n't there be a wider front patch for the Type R?...at least for the track?

I'm not sure what your confusion is, since you're already aware that the NSX has larger rear tires than front tires. It was designed this way partly for packaging purposes (basically, to keep the front wheel wells from intruding on interior room, such as in cars whose pedals are offset to the right instead of straight ahead of the driver). 215/40-17 is about the widest and largest diameter tire you can put on the front without risk of rubbing.

The NSX Type R tire sizes are the same as the stock USIM '02-05 NSX-T.

I have 245/40-17 fronts on my race car and no rubbing except when full lock backing up or creeping forward.

Have you removed the wheel well liners, air conditioning, etc?
