"Honda NSX Type R

If Honda's Type R magic can turn the Civic from a sensible family model into one of the most desired hot hatches around, imagine what it can do to a supercar. Until now, this has had to remain a fantasy, as the NSX Type R has never been sold officially here. But Honda UK bosses have finally changed their minds.

A 20 per cent price premium over the £59,995 NSX will get
you a car that's 120kg lighter than the standard model's 1,390kg. This reduction is partly due to the extensive use of carbon fibre on the bonnet, front and rear spoilers, while the cabin gets much of the same treatment. Honda's engineers have even fitted thinner glass and taken out some of the insulation to lighten the load. The result makes a standard NSX feel dull - the Type R is so much more direct and purposeful on the road. Stiffened suspension and new alloy wheels shod with specially designed tyres all play a part, while the 16-inch racing brakes keep the car on the road. Some tinkering with the 3.2-litre V6 to make it faster-revving and the complete lack of soundproofing also give the NSX a great engine note. Gavin Ward

Honda NSX Type R

This is the ultimate NSX - and it doesn't even have a power boost. Only 100 or so a year will be built, so exclusivity is guaranteed, too.

* NSX Type R priced £72,000 (est)

* Modified 3.2-litre V6 produces 280bhp. Six-speed manual box

* Covers 0-60mph sprint in 4.4 seconds; top speed of 168mph"

Sounds good. Will be sold in the UK.

Well, I like NA engines. I'd rather have the newer NSX engines than a SC. In another magazine (Japanese Performance) they tested the new 2002 NSX and said the car had to have at least 320 hp, not the 280 claimed. They said it was probably a "gentlemens agreement" horsepower figure.
They also concluded that if it had not been for the badge factor, they would have picked the NSX ahead og the Porsche C4S who won the test. Other cars were Z06, TVR and Z3 M and C4S.

Top speed is lower than the regular 2002 NSX-T?

Its the "brochure" thing... just like the Japanese brochures always show power topping out at 280 PS.

Its quicker than the NSX-T in all meaningful aspects.

interesting UK pricing from the above site:

NSX coupe:
- manual 3.2 : 56734
- auto 3.0 : 59554
- R 3.0 : est 72000

NSX-T
- manual 3.2 : 59554 (same price as auto coupe)
- auto 3.0 : 62374

both "T" and "auto" have price premiums

The NSX-R does not come in LHD in *any* Market as far as I know.
You can however bring one into the U.S for racing purposes only (Non-street legal) if you have 250,000 sitting around...
You get 150K back as it is a deposit.
