Last weekend I went to the first stages of the European NSX-trophy at the Sachsenring in Germany (former East-Germany) with another Dutch NSX-owner Gerard van S.
For me it was the first time I competed (standard class) and it was a very nice experience indeed. I was slowest in the qualification rounds and in both matches I also finished last. However, I did improve my lap-times from the 2:08 during qualification down to 1:56 in the second match. Since I was the only one running treet-tires and I don't have much experience on tracks I am not dissatisfied. In the second match I was able to keep up with the second last person (also standard but with slicks) for about four laps after which he slowly pulled away from me. I definitely do need new brake-pads although Gerard was able to help me out on my rear brake-pads after the first match. The Sachsenring has many curves which also wind up and down which is pretty hard on your brakes. Also, I probably used them more than necessary because of my inexperience.

The trip back to Holland was also especially nice. The 750km was covered in about 4.5 hours of which the last 150 km in Holland was around the local speed limit of 120kph (75mph).
In Germany however, were there are no speed limits in general, Gerard and I were able to cruise at speeds between 130-165 mph over a distance of about 450km which was absolutely great. We were certainly not the only ones doing 120+mph but only on two occasions did other cars tag along for a while. I have about an hour of it on tape, however not very sharp since the camera focused on my windshield instead of the road.
Thusfar my car is standard except for wheels (17/18) and it's a bit lowered but the NSX handled the road & twists beautifully with not a trace of instability, even when the road surface wasn't always smooth. Doing long radius turns at 250kph posed no problems at all. It was certainly an experience worth repeating ;) It makes me appreciate the car even more than I already did.

I just love my NSX !!!!

Great post! I wish I could do this with you guys! Please post some pics if possible. I'm interested in what most of the euro NSX owners are running to be competitive with one another.

The web site is terrific as well. But the thumbnail photos in the gallery wouldn't blow up to a bigger size.

Again great post!

MvM,

Great post! It sounds like you guys had a great time. I wish I could drive my NSX on to the German highways.

I believe the only roads in the US that had no speed limit were certain highways in Montana. I believe they now have speed limits unfortunately. :(

Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the video-tape to my PC. When I have managed that I will start hosting at least part of the return trip from Germany. There are some nice parts in it.

Hi Mich,
I'm not sure how Gerard finished in the first race. I think he was second or third there. In the second race however he had clutch problems and stopped after three laps. His clutch will only disengage with difficulty, making it very hard to shift. So in the end, he didn't win any prices but I haven't seen the complete results yet.

It is a misconception that Montana formerly had no speed limits. For a while the speed limit was a "reasonable and prudent speed", although there was no stated speed limit number in mph. They were still giving out tickets for doing 100+ mph.
