NSX-T roof removal - is it allowed?

Hi All,

After my first time on the track last year at NSXPO, i'm interested in tracking my NSX more this year (go figure!). It was a blast, but I really would enjoy it more if I could remove the targa top. At mid-ohio, this was not allowed. Just wondering what I would need to do if i wanted to track the car with the roof OFF? Would a rollbar (at the b-pillar) work? This is only for novice events or driving schools only inthe midwest/northeast regions.

Also, does anyone know if this varies by track or are there a set of guidelines I can follow? I would think if they allow convertibles, that removing the roof would be okay.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

It may vary by track. It will definitely vary based on the organization conducting the event. Many such organizations do not allow a removable-roof car onto the track at all; others do so only if the car has a full roll cage; and still others have no such restrictions (but may or may not require the roof panel to be in place). You'll need to check with the specific organization(s) conducting the events that you're interested in participating in.

the roof panel does add structural rigidity. while handling difference may be marginal, the safety is not- keep it on.

Thanks for the input.

I know it adds some rigidity to the car, but didnt think it added much in additional safety.

I was just looking at terms of personal comfort - I'm not that tall (5'-8 ish), but seems uncomfortable with a helmet on. I also just enjoy the open air more :)

The car will handle better with the roof on.

My experience is that it is generally not allowed. That's why I now drive a Subaru on the track. However, as your skills and speed increase you'll find your desire for safety will override your desire for sunshine.

If you don't fit with the helmet on, I highly recommend removing the seat cushion. If you still don't fit, buy a Subaru.
