I was told by my local dealer that a new spare tire can no longer be ordered as it isn't being stocked/produced by Acura anymore. I found this amazing since the car is still being produced.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Several thoughts:

1. You probably already know that you would have to buy the tire and wheel assembly; the tire is not sold separately. At least, that's my understanding. And the tire/wheel assembly costs around $900.

2. If you want to buy a new one, I would guess that the tire/wheel assembly for a '97-05 NSX is still available and will work fine on your '91. (Hopefully, someone can verify this.) The only concern might be whether it will fit under the hood; I don't know whether they changed anything there (e.g. the pan that the tire sits on) to accommodate the larger wheel size. The '97-05 has a larger wheel because the front brake calipers are bigger. Incidentally, you can tell the difference visually; the wheel for the '91 is orange, and the wheel for the '97-05 is yellow.

3. If you're willing to buy one second hand, check out the NSXprime marketplace listings, and place one for a wheel wanted. There are folks who have bought big brake kits and no longer can use their spare. And there are 700-800 advantages to buying a wheel/tire second hand for a hundred or two hundred dollars, versus a new one for 900... ;)

Good luck...

FYI, the yellow 97+ spare fits fine in my 94 with the original 15" bracket. I upgraded spares to clear 97 brakes.

I've still got my original unused 94 spare - if you want it PM me.

Thanks for the info guys. Don't need a wheel right now, just doing some research. Definitely didn't know about the color/fitment differences. Thanks very much!

I would just go with the run flats and remove the spare to safe some weights.

Run flat tires are heavier, and the weight they add is unsprung weight. If anything, performance is probably worse by doing that.

oh, good point. How much heavier? I have noticed a lot of new cars are using run flat now.

My fiancee's SC 430 has run flats. I don't like them. Going over any kind of minor bump in the road feels like you just hit a speed bump at 100 mph, and the car darts all over the place. I think the lack of a supple sidewall creates other suspension and handling issues.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I've got a new spare tire...and no fiancee!

sounds like a fair trade! did i say that out loud? really, just kidding!

as far as the spare goes, i haven't pulled it out yet, but mine appears to have a lot of cracks in the small sidewall. just a hunch, but it's probably bad right?

isnt the law that car manufactures must make and supply parts for 7 years are each model year??
