This is from another thread, but it is getting burried and I want everyone to see it.

Factor X is tooling around with the idea of hosting a NSX shootout event at the LVMS.

It would include a Dyno Day, 1/4 mile, and Road Course Day.

The purpose would be to compare all of the FI and NA solutions out there, see them in real world environments, and have an all around great time in Las Vegas with other NSX freaks.

We would like to get all of the different FI solutions together and find out what is what and put an end to all the bickering over turbo vs sc vs nitrous etc.etc..

We should have enough FI cars in CA to do this.

Is anyone interested?

Are there any road courses are in or near Las Vegas?
There's one right next to the Factor X shop. Part of the Las Vegas Speedway complex.

racing in Vegas during summer could be devastating. It is so freakin hot, you could easily pass out in the car.
I second that, especially if you're wearing a racing helmet & suit during daytime! Right now the weather should be perfect though. I also suggested a future Vegas NSXPO in my survey response. ;)

EDIT: Before/after SEMA would've been a good time to have an event like this too.

Cool-Suit and dry ice w/air to the helmet.

I can’t say I tried it yet, but Brian and Vaughn from DAL used one a Daytona and said it worked great.

I would fly out to see this but....
The only problem with the 1/4 mile shoot out is, if your car runs under 12 sec. and you dont have a roll cage they wont let you run .
Some one should look for a different track so we wont have this problem.

How does FX get to run theirs, as it is under 12? They don't have a roll bar.

what about finding a desolate stretch of straight level road (gee...possible in nevada..hmm..??) and renting one of those speed wheel thingies?

I don't know which part of this proposal is more unlikely - doing a high-speed run on a public road (can you say "liability litigation nightmare"?) or renting fifth-wheel testing equipment...

Side note- that fifth wheel is not often used anymore unless you have one already. Tests are done with a progressive radar and software by Stalker Radar Company. The Radar records acceleration and deceleration, and the software gives you times between any two miles per hour. These records can also be overlapped to graph the variance between runs, or different cars.
