Anybody have any suggestions about getting the mesh boot to sit-up close to the shift nob? I have the replica NSX R shift nob on.

Thanks, Josh

Does it have a clip like this?

no, it does-en. I got the clear anodized finish one from dali. It's just like the small round one you sell minus the clip. Thanks for the reply though, Josh

I just used a cable tie, you can easily adjust to any position you like.

I was thinking about a zip tie.. but it will just slip down. IS that was you mean by cable tie? Please explain, Thanks

The underside of the boot at what would be the top if you unrolled it has 4 slits in it (like belt loops in reverse). A skinny zip tie goes through them to cinch the downward folded top of the boot to the shift knob above the flange on the shift knob. You can get at it if you work from the back end of the console with it lifted up a few inches. PITA. You will need some small snips to cut off the extra end. This applies for my Zanardi boot, I am assuming the R is the same, but don't know. The opening at top is so tight that mine is staying on fine with no zip tie. Make sure you snip the tie and remove it prior to trying to loosen the knob or you will tear the slits like I did. Good luck.

one of these...

There are quite a few options currently available for various types of shift-boot & shift-knob combinations.

(*) = NSX-R mesh-boot

I simply made my own shift-boot clip from 4x4 twill CF weave & epoxy/resin for my custom CF shift-boot, using the mold of my tear-drop CF shift-knob's clip. I might a make handful more for friends...

If you don't want to fork-out $25'ish for a small piece of metal/plastic, head to a hardware shoppe or The Home Depot / Lowes... :: MacGyver ::

As illustrated in the technical diagram below, the clip goes into the little chrome thingy that is on the top of the OEM leather shift bootie (1991-2003)...

As best as I remember the shifter shaft is tapered once you tighten the zip tie at a given point it won't shift down. Mine's been on for 2 years with no issues. It's not high-tech but it's simple and it's works.

The shaft on my '91 is smooth. All the same diameter I have not unrolled it like TyraNSX was talking about. I have not been in my car yet, after all of the info from everyone .

I am new to the NSX. ( I AM IN LOVE ) And i am new to nsx prime. This site the shit!! Thanks everyone for the help. I look forward to all the info on this beautiful car.

I copied this pic from the SOS website. Is this what you have? I'm guessing you need the zip tie. It doesn't go around the shift lever, it goes around the base of the knob. If it's like the Zanardi boot, the part that folds back down holds a zip tie on the bottom side of the boot (the very top of the cone which is now folded in and down around base of knob). Look closely at the backside of the boot near the top (fully unfolded) for 4 slits around the circumference. When it is folded, this part is hidden in the "crater" of the fold and the ziptie on the bottom side of the material cinches around base of knob above flange on knob & holds boot up. Even if the slits aren't there, a ziptie should hold it up provided your knob has a flange at the bottom (I know someone is going to make a joke about this). See second pic

I don't know how to post a picture yet. OR i would post the pic of the dali shift nob that i have, its a clear anodized finish, it looks sweet with the stock dash trim, and the mesh boot,IMO. It does not have a lip. I understand what your saying though. I will post a pic. of the shift nob.
