Well just got these installed. Nothing overly major or complicated, for me a 10min job.

So these are the tiny NSX-R parts. As always not cheap for what you get lol You can see the finish is the same as the door handle surround.

For those unsure what they are, they basically fill in the door lock switch, NSX-R does not have auto lock

OK I guess if you are building a Type R replica I could maybe see it, but is it really worth the hassle of not having auto locks?

How much weight are you saving?

I think on 04 and 05 had a blank cover over the passenger lock.

Its still has auto lock! The central locking system works just the same and both doors lock and unlock from the outside via key or remote. On my keyless entry system I can still lock/unlock both door from the inside by pressing the button on the remote, so for me everything still works the same.

lol Doubt there is any real weight saving:smile:

The part number you gave is slightly different to the NSX-R one; interesting though you mention 04/05 may have a blank on US passenger side, I dont think this is the case here [UK/Ireland] That part number doesnt even come up on our system.

sort of on topic, I have a 2004 (US Market) and the passenger door does have the door lock button blanked out, I have not removed the door panel yet but was wondering if the wiring was still there and they just removed the switch for some unknown reason (other than to save a few bucks). I have had three NSX's now and I know it is a nit picky thing but I was wanting to put a switch in there if it would be a plug and play process.

Anyone know if the wires and plug are still there on the 04-05?

That interesting info, must check further to see if this is the case in UK.

If you wanted to check your own car it may not be too difficult if you dont want to take the door card off.

Just take the handle off, very simple to do, then have a feel in around the door area to see if there are any plugs loose or tied up. On mine its a grey colored plug.

Is the blank cover the same part for left and right? That means one could order two right side covers and use one on the left side too?

Yes the ones I bought from Japan are the same, left and right. I even had a look at the auto door lock buttons and they are the same so can be used for either side.

Hi Dave,

I have just looked at a 2004/2005 UK NSX, and it would seem they came with the auto door lock button same as all years.

So interesting to hear that in the US it was deleted?? Dont see the logic in that.

does early model NSX have auto electric door locking? Like remote locking from key fob or manual locking like on old miatas. (gotta manually lock passenger and drivers door)

i have a 2005 us nsx (with the passenger lock cover as above). i always wondered why honda did that on the us 04/05's. now i guess i can fell better that it has a type r part on it!! lol

My 2005 does NOT have the wiring in the passenger door. I'm planning to put the lock in this summer. There might be a plug taped off somewhere behind the dashboard near the passenger kick panel.

The part numbers changed from 2003 to 2004 for the door wire harness and the main sub harness that feeds the door so it looks like the wires for the door lock was deleted from the harnesses, also it looks like the security and door lock control units were combined into a single unit in 2004 so the wires and the control unit would need to be changed. I believe a subharness could be made to jump the wires in the drivers door to duplicate them in the passenger door to make a switch work in the passenger door.

It can be done but does not look like it is worth it to me.

Ddozier

that makes sense (re the security system and locks) in the 04/05.

to me the nicer key fobs, added tone and lights of the 04/05 are worth the trade off of not having the passenger lock switch.

Makes me think maybe Honda didn't "save weight" or try to save money. Maybe the door lock switch interfered with the modern style keyless system somehow?

See the discussion in the thread below from 5 years ago.

The deletion of the passenger side interior power lock switch on US Spec 2004-2005 was a weight saving measure, straight from the source. :)

The wiring is also no longer there.
