NSX-R chassis bar on pre-02 NA2

Folks, I have a 98 targa, and I just partially installed my NSX-R chassis bar. What I mean by that is I installed one of two bars (for now), and the one I installed is the one right beneath the OEM black sway bar underneath the radiator.

Here is the problem. Upon first install, the NSX-R chassis bar actually touches the OEM sway bar. Then I noticed there were spacers about one inch thick where the OEM sway bar attaches to the car. I removed the spacers, and now the two bars don't hit. The issue now is the OEM sway bar is about a quarter inch from the radiator pipe (not the rubber one, the metal one, that runs to the rear of the car) and I am afraid the two will hit.

Anybody have the same issues? There must be plenty of NSX-R chassis bar installs on pre-02 NA2's. What did you guys do about the spacers?

thanks fellas.

Don at Hilltop (the car is there) recommends I just take the OEM spacers to the machine shop and chop it in half. I can keep the NSX-R chassis bar as is.

I find it hard to imagine nobody else has had this problem? It was literally the first thing to transpire upon bolt-on of the lower NSX-R chassis bar.

Lots of people have encountered this problem. See my post above. SOS sells the solution. No need to go to a machine shop.

SOS sells a sway bar spacer kit that many people have used to solve this problem.

Its a simple kit, but for the little money its worth not having to worry about anything rubbing.

I would suggest calling SOS to be sure this application will work to solve the problem you are having.

Orchard supply and Hardware "OSH" sells spacers like those for a few cents each. They also have the bolts too. I've seen them in aluminum spacers and stainless bolts. They carry a HUGE variety of stuff like those little parts.

Everyone here gives me shit for recommending the hardware store for little pieces like that for our cars. I gotta swing by and pick up some steel for my seat mounting bases. I'll take some pics of the items they carry that we can use for our car. Most of which we'll spend less than 25% of vendor asking prices.

Cutting the sway bar "spacer" by half will solve the problem of touching the radiator hose. But that will not solve the problem with the sway bar and Type R bar which in my 98-T still rubbed. You will need to put a spacer for the Type R which will then necessiate a spacer for the two battery bolts. And not all the existing bolts can be reused given the bite that you will need. We spent some 20 hours coming with this solution. None of the vendors offer the complete kit.

I think OSH is a great place to get hardware. I get stuff from them pretty regularly.

If you can find the specs for the pieces needed for the spacer kit and post them up, that would be a great help to those needing this fix.

1+ i would use SOS's solution as these are much stronger. I would not trust a bunch of washers. And I would NOT try to cut anything especially the sway bars! wtf!? Just buy the spacers and you're done! Thread closed.

Take a breather before you start using cussing words. If you had followed the thread, you would know that we are referring to the cutting the sway bar "spacer" .... but I edited it for you so you sleep better.

um yea  WTF = Whiskey Tango Foxtrot over? Who's using "cussing words" ? No one here is being hostile.

I have the dali sway bars (0.875") and both the NSX-R chassis bars. I don't see what the big deal is of using the right parts for the job. I used the right spacers for the NSX-R lower bar and have no issues at all.

Toured the Orchard supply and hardware. It seems they stopped carrying the aluminum spacers but kept the nylons. Which is no help. Time to tour the Ace True Value hardware store. They're about $1 each last time I saw.

Worth the few minutes to check it out. Especially for $4-$8 in parts that get torqued down rather low. Especially versus paying $60 w/ shipping and waiting a week.
