Hi All,

I have had a lot of help from the NSX community with my quest for better performance. In my research I have found information that many could benefit from, but has been filed away with the individuals rather then shared with the community- Rob Morrison

This is a collection of notes that may accelerate the time spent with your own quest for performance.

Beautiful stuff,Thanks!

Awesome info, Rob. Thanks for sharing.

Echo the "great stuff" comments. Curious to know how wide your 15" wheels are and if you're using 16's in the rear?

And you're producing some of these parts as well? If so, send me the catalog!

Again, great stuff. I wish I would have made it to one of your races to help pit.

Thanks Rob.

Argh!!! I can’t believe you misspelled VTEC in the 2nd-to-last paragraph! I’ll assume it’s intentional – poking fun at the common newbie mistake. :D

Seriously, this is awesome work. Thanks for compiling so much real-world track knowledge in one place.

Big new revision... near 50 pages now.

I will add that one of the first mistakes people make is to fit the largest brake system they can find, 6 to 8 pistons with monster diameter and wide rotors… many times with equal size in the rear. Brake systems should be only as much as you need for the worst of conditions, because the brakes are one of the worst places to have weight. In motorsports like NASCAR, they will change rotors and brake systems depending on what they need for that particular track. This is more important then you think. Dyno your car before and after a big brake upgrade, and you will see a horsepower loss at the wheels…

Does this mean that BBK is not required and only for show purpose?

A staggering amount of info in one place. I can't wait to hit the lottery and go racing. Thanks for spending all the time to put it in one place.

That’s a good question… I wasn’t too clear about what to do if your not trying to design a racecar. The stock brakes can defiantly be improved on, and I’m certain that many if not all will be an improvement. Wei Shen is the NSXCA President (and very good driver); he uses the Brembo NSX kit. I’m confident that he wouldn’t have stayed with this kit for so many years, if it wasn’t very good. If you can take a trip to California, you might want to see the Brake Man for a custom application. Another option would be the Stoptech kit. I have heard good things about them on other cars but haven’t seen them used on an NSX yet. I think the most important thing I wanted to convey was that in many cases the kits offered are not necessarily the end-all solution, nor are they promoted that way. Even the expensive Brembo kit is offered as an improvement kit, and they would suggest one of their better calipers, different masters, and maybe even different rotors if you had the capabilities of fitting them on your racecar.

Rob/RacerX-21,

Superb!

I've been looking for this exact information since getting my second NSX, but hadn't been able to find it.

I haven't completed reading the whole doc yet, but I was curious. If you ever had extra time, maybe you could add your advice/thoughts on each section on improvements (or things which don't need to be improved) without regards for your class specific rules. I only ask because some of us aren't building for a specific class and are more club-racer types where the rules are basically run-wutcha-brung (assuming safety rules are met)....

Thanks for the excellent work!

Rob's write-up is so good that it deserves a bump, so I'm reviving it.

Everybody, revisit the link at the top to remind yourself of the wealth of technical info there.
