As many of you know, the OEM NSX dash trim piece is both costly and difficult to obtain as many dealers can't sell them anymore.

In the past - you had very limited choices when it comes time for you to retire your OEM cassette deck for an aftermarket unit depending on what you wanted to do and in most cases you need to sacrifice your stock dash piece for surgery.

We know not every person has the same needs but we need to cater to the majority in what we've seen are the big 3 options:

a) Install a double din deck and retain the OEM ash tray assembly

b) Install a double din deck and remove the ashtray assembly

c) DELETE the radio assembly all together

Each solution above has it's merits and drawbacks. Another tricky aspect to keep in mind is not all DD units have the exact same outer diameter. The double din size is a universal standard but each mfr. has varied design sizing which makes cutting the DD opening very specific to the deck. With our angled DD unit we purposely designed it with extra material so you can remove as much as needed to accommodate the deck. However with option (a) the opening must be perfectly spaced to allow for varies decks and we feel it's best to error on the side of a smaller opening as it's easy to file it down but harder to add material.

(a) here's an example of a DD dash trim with an opening for a 7" DD unit while keeping the ashtray assembly:

(b) here's an example of our custom CF DD angled dash piece (ashtray delete) next to a messed up dash piece that came in the car (sad to see an OEM piece hacked up like this just to install a single DIN):

In one of our custom jobs, here is an example of our FRP DD angled dash piece custom painted in OEM paint with black trim bezel around the radio for reduced glare:

OEM dash trim for those who must have the stock OEM radio look:

Of course in the last category of custom work - some NSX owners want custom gauges, radar, switches and other options in their dash trim and for these cases it would have to be custom built. However the ideal setup is to start with one of our FRP dash trim pieces to modify so you can retain your stock dash piece.

Our question to NSX owners is, which one would you like to see for your car? We already offer the angled DD solution in both FRP and CF but trying to determine if there is a market for the OEM dash trim. To open and create a mold for each design is very expensive so we are trying to determine if it makes business sense to try and create multiple NSX dash trims for an already very small market.

Input welcome!

thanks

How about a completely refinished OEM style console garnish, with matching AC vent surround and arm rest switch/vent garnish pieces in the factory color (depending on year)? Seems to me that is a growing market as the originals get scratched up and start to bubble or wrinkle.

I have a coupe, so my vote goes for the "normal" DD in carbon fiber with or without the ashtray (but definitely with the slot where my euro/jdm buttons go)

The coin tray area will stay regardless, we have no plans to delete this section.

thanks for your input!

+1 to TOF but also very much like the original replicated in carbon fiber,or is that just a faux CF finish?what sort of pricing can we expect on these peices or is it still to early to tell?
thanks,

It's not "real" carbon fiber, technically. True CF, but overlayed over either an OEM or FRP core. Not carbon solid through.

As far as the original question, many are going more towards the OEM piece or something very similar, even any of the external attachments to retain the stock piece.

Currently we have plans to offer:

a) OEM NSX Dash piece for owners who wish to retain their factory cassette radio system, ashtray, etc. in both CF or FRP

b) OEM NSX DD angled Dash piece in both CF or FRP

c) OEM NSX DD cutout (flush mount) while retaining OEM ashtray section in both CF or FRP

thanks!
