NSX Insurance

Hi,

I recently purchased a 1997 NSX-T and was wondering about insurance.
I am getting all kinds of pricing variance for the same coverage. I understand about collector car insurance, driving records and such, so I have been concentrating on primary insurance carriers. No mileage limitations and such. Does anyone have any suggestions about insurance on these fine machines? I went to my agent and received a quote that was about $300.00 higher a year than another major company and I already have 2 other cars and a house insured with them. Just wondering what other people have run into. Thanks Ed

Some companies charge more than others, and which one is the lowest can vary from one car to another. Companies also vary in terms of their service; the JD Power ratings may help. Shop around...

Hi,

Yes I have checked with many different companies seems like the ranges for a 40 year old no accidents or tickets, divorced (that is why I can have my NSX  ) is running anywhere from $650.00 to $800.00 per 6 months. Collector insurance is quite a bit cheaper. I was just wondering what other people’s experiences are like.

Thanks I will check out the website.

Ed

Im using USAA, 28 years old, several tickets outside of 3 years, homeowner and paying $713 every 6 months for full coverage for my 02.

30 yo, single. w/another car on the policy. Homeowners through somebody else. I pay 111.00 month through State Farm, that is with rental, uninsured motorists and 100/300/50 limits I believe. The car is listed as limited use vehicle, ie not primary so that helps some.

When I had my 93 it was about 85 a month, but with lower limits.

We are two years apart, $2 a month apart per monthly coverage, both of us in Texas ! Oh, and both of us own 02's !

Fwiw, I have another car insured through USAA as well, dont think it saves me much on the Nsx though.

I don't have an NSX yet but I will soon enough that I've already priced insurance. Currently I have a 98 Mercedes SLK and an 99 Ford Escort, both with full coverage. If I drop the Escort and add a 95 NSX my insurance will go up $200 a year. This is with Geico.

Just $200 over an Escort that might be worth $4000. The SLK didn't add that much when I bought it last year. When I asked at the time why that was they said it was because the Mercedes was much safer than the Ford (ABS, traction control, side airbags, etc).

Hell, I work for an insurance company and I still can't figure auto insurance pricing out.

USAA - around $500 a year...

Beware the forums nazi . . .

I pay $40/month for 100/300 on my 93 at age 28. I am in the suburbs, not the city. It is not a primary driver, but unlimited. I put about 10k a year on it.

Farmers Mutual is 100/300/100 $781 with 500 deductible for 6 months
Safeco around 652 for same coverage.

I am just looking for a better deal sound like USAA might be a good bet.

My Farmers Mutual Agent was trying to tell me that other companies might not have the experience with the NSX and that is why they are higher... He told me that if I use someone else and have a claim that that company will learn quickly and raise the rates. My comment was if I have a claim with the NSX it will probably be totaled anyway. Strange comment from an insurance agent that they don't want to take the risk. I thought that is why you paid insurance.

Please keep the information coming...Maybe some insurance company out there will think that NSX owners are a good risk and give better premiums. I am not complaining about the cost, just that if you have these fine machines I doubt if you will be to destructive with them.

Just checked USAA. It looks like I separated from the military too long ago.

To those of you who are still serving. Thank you.

Finally, to quote Mr. nsxtasy:

"Rates are going to vary depending on company, state, town, age, driving record, coverages and limits, etc.

There's a very easy way to find out how much it will cost for you to insure an NSX. Just call your insurance company and ask. They can tell you, even without you having to buy the car. Or you can check an online service such as http://www.insweb.com"

The purpose of the post was to find alternative insurance companies that people were using for insuring their NSX. I have talked to multiple different insurance companies myself, but it takes quite a bit of time to go through the process with each one of them. I have even reached the final step with some of them only for them to say “Oh this is a specialty car, we need to refer you to our highline department”, my own insurance agent had never heard of an NSX, however after showing him the pictures he is a believer. Talking to insurance companies at random wastes a great deal of time that could be better used in other endeavors. The web is not an effective tool for finding insurance companies because so many different companies come up in the search, (traditional insurers, collectible insurers, exotic insurers and such) so asking people who were already insured with the same type car seemed like a logical step. Once you collect the database of companies familiar with the car then it is more efficient to “call the insurance companies” to get the rates for your car.

I'm with USAA and only pay about $100 a month on my 91 nsx. I'm also 24 and have a clean record. Can't wait to get back to cali. By the way I thought USAA only served military members and family members of military?

A few months ago I was switching auto insurance carriers and posted to Prime about insurance coverage issues and questions.

At the time I got a quote from Costco auto insurance (Yes the same Costco as the wholesale warehouse superstores) that was MUCH lower than the other quotes I had requested. They are underwritten by American Express corporation and seem to have coverage on par with most other companies. It did not come to fruition in the end (I went with Nationwide) but it may be worth another try...

www.Costco.com -> click on services at the top -> then choose auto/home insurance.

Let me know if it works out!

WOW!!!

you guys pay a lot less than I do.

After shopping around quite a bit, i was able to get insurance with Geico for $1,150 per 6 months...

may have something to do w/ the fact that I'm 23....

They are much lower but from my personal experience, they are very picky about whom they insure. Two broken windshields and I was excluded. They said "no claims in the past three years." Modifications to the car were cause to be excluded as well. My supercharger was not allowed.

good lord....some of you guys pay a lot.....

I'm 25/married/clean record...w/multicar discount & homeowners insurance...I pay about $73/month..for a 300/300 deductible on my 91...

Yes some of us do pay quite a bit for insurance. As the person starting this thread I have been amazed to find out the great amount of help from the NSX Prime members and the great differences in the cost of insurance. I found AIG had the best rate for me. What I also found was that the insurance cost for a 91 was about ½ that of my 97 with the same coverage. I can’t imagine that the replacement costs of the parts would be that much different so probably the insurance companies are just looking at the cost of totaling the car for an accident.

Thanks to everyone for their help in getting some of this insurance nightmare solved.

I have yet to find anyone cheaper than Wawanesa Ins. (in California). They are not a broker. I don't know where else they insure. http://www.wawanesageneral.com/
Had a 2002 Cherokee, 2004 Yukon and a Ferrari 308 all with full coverage (100k) and a $500 deductible. All three cars were $1644 a year total.

Haven't got the policy quote yet for the NSX i just put in the living room... i i mean the garage. I'll let you know when i know.
