I own a 1996 NSX, and the front lower spoiler is scratched up. I ordered a new one to have it replaced, but they no longer make the 1996 style front spoilers, it's superceded with 97+ style. I want to know if the installation is the same. The 97+ looks bigger than the 96 one. Has anyone replaced the front spoiler before? If so can you provide me with some information as to how I should install it easily and safely. Should I jack up the car and do it? Thanks!

Mounting points are the same,it would be easier to lift the front if possible to have better access. You may also want to get a bunch of plastic pushpins from your dealer, because once you look under the front of the car you'll probably be amazed at how many have fallen out. These support the plastic shielding behind the spoiler. Also check your fender wells, and liners.

Pushpins? Not sure where to look...

I took a picture of the front spoiler, and I'm not sure what pushpins, you are referring to? Not sure where to look... The front lower plastic spoiler is held by 13 screws. Please let me know where the pushpins are located and why they are important, thanks!

The only difference in the 97+ front lip is the sides are wider and flair out a bit. It mounts the same as the old one. Just use a deep 10mm socket to take the bolts off.
My car is 3 inches off the ground and I replaced mine with out jacking it up.
You might want to have a good look around the under side as Docjhon pointed out, those plasic push pins come off alot.

Those push pins look to be the same, but with Dalis rep I would go to the dealer. ;)

The push pins hold the fender wells on, and some of the rubber pices under the car. Push on the plastic pices and see if they are lose, if they dont move dont worry.:D

Yes the pushpins I'm refering to are holding on the plastic panels posterior to the spoiler and have nothing to do with it.Just have a good look around is all I'm saying.

Here is a few pics to help you.

Thank You Guys!

;) Oh, that's the pushpins you guys were talking about! Thanks prova4re for the pictures. :D

BTW if there are missing pushpins...

BTW if there are missing pushpins, is it important to get them ASAP? Will parts far out of my NSX?? Anyone have stories to tell about the pushpins?  Hope not... Thanks again!

ss5153,

   a NSX in Europe exploded because of that!!!!

;) :p

No no, problem at all, as long as the black fender walls do not rub on the tires. Even in that case it would not lead to any major problem but it would be wise to replace them.

If you really need the pushpins, generic ones can be obtained at Lowes or Home Depot for about 60 cents apiece. Not exactly OEM but works well enough for me.

For those seeking more technical purity than the Pep Boys parts ( which work just fine BTW ) Honda dealers sell the shoulder bolts, plastic fasteners, and lots of other stuff that is the same as an Acura part for lots less. The only consideration for those in harsh climates is that some of the NSX stuff has special coatings that the Honda stuff doesn't to prevent corrosion between the steel and aluminum.

Those little plastic "buttons" carry the same part number from Honda and I purchased a 10-pack for under $2. The local Acura dealer wanted $2 each.

Do you remember what the part number is? I'm missing some so I'll need to buy some soon. Thanks.

Just unscrew one (phillips screwdriver) and bring it by the Honda dealer. They should be able to match it up. I'm away from home on business currently so I cannot get the numbers.

it's a very easy install.. I also own a 96 and put on the 97+ chin spoiler and it looks perfect.. No gaps and perfect fit..

Start from the middle outward..

I jacked up my car a little so I can have some space but it's not necessary unless you have it lowered.

my spoiler was in very bad shape from the previous owner and it was about $100 touch up that drastically changed the car.. looks much better..

I think it took me around 1 hour to remove the old one and install the new one and I was taking my time..

Also it was the first time I did it...

i saw that I was missing one of the clips so the Acura guys gave me a few for free! (Miami Acura)

Haven't had a chance...

;) I haven't had a chance to do the install, I still have the new 97+ spoiler in the garage. But I will take some before and after pictures as soon as I get my new digital camera. The ones that I've taken previously was a borrowed one from my co-worker. I saw a great deal at www.walmart.com. Kodak 3.2 MP EasyShare CX4310 Digital Camera for only $99.74, and shipping is only $1.87!!! :D

Question for spyderman33

Hi spyderman33,

I want to know how tight did you tighten the screws for the new spoiler? Is there a specific torque wrench I need to use or should I just tighten it until it don't go. Did you kept the old spoiler in the garage? Thanks! ;)

I just tighten enough.. This is basically that I don't overtighten it but just enough that it feels that it's on tight.

I just used a regular old socket wrench nothing fancy...

I actually threw the old spoiler away because it was really worn out. A couple of the holes (?) were broken and it was scratched up and bent down.. It made the front look horrible.. It made no sense in keeping it. It would just take up space..

After I installed the new one, it looks 1000% times better... I did it one night after work.. It's easy.. believe me, I am not that handy and I did it in no time.

PM me if you want me to guide you over the phone.
