Hi guys - we have been trying to work out a dealer discount program for you at Camco.

I spoke with Mike Neville yesterday, and it does not look like there will be a blanket program for NSXCC members, although he did encourage all members to go to Camco (of course) and he would help them out on a case by case basis.

I see a few things impairing our ability to get Camco onside:

1) They are the only Acura dealer in Ottawa, AFAIK. Why offer discounts when you are probably going there anyways.
2) There are less than 15 NSXs in Ottawa (according to Camco) and they are probably capturing the bulk of that business already. The increased business may not offset the lost revenue on business they would have anyways.
3) The owner does not appear to place any greater regard on NSX business than another Acura.

All fair enough points but we are dissapointed with the outcome. It seems that this is purely a financial thing for them, which is different than how Erin Mills has looked at it. I know for a fact that Erin Mills is THRILLED with how our arrangement with them has worked out, not only because they get more NSXs than ever before, but because we have nice cars that draw attention from other customers and because we are a great group to deal with. We are EXTREMELY lucky to have such an insightful and co-operative dealer in Toronto.

NSXCC members in Ottawa STILL RECEIVE for 20% parts discounts from Erin Mills. If you have a big ticket item, PLEASE remember that you can probably get the parts delivered to you, or whereever, through the club for install. The shipping costs will negatively offset the discount, but there is probably still value for you in this.

In the meantime, please let us know how you would like to proceede. We are up for building value for Ottawa members however we can. Are there other places that you guys would like to go for servicing? If you can find out where there may be another licensed NSX tech in Ottawa, we can see what we can do for you there. Maybe at a Honda dealership?

Regardless, the NSXCC is committed to building value for Ottawa members with the goal of increasing our Ottawa membership.

How can the Club provide greater value to you folks?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the hard work, I honestly didn't even know you were involved in this.

Since you're in our mailing list (NOGO) you might have also caught wind of the fact that I tried for a similar discount from Camco and was met with similar results. There are actually closer to 20 NSXs in the region, and although a few of us go to Camco for work, a know a lot (myself included) choose to go elsewhere as Camco have not shown any real interests in having our business (big fish in little pond mentality I think). :frown:

I have approached the guys here on numerous occasions about NSXCC but the unofficial consensus is that NSXCC still seems more of a GTA group with the majority of the benefits (meets, cruises, discounts, shop days) focused there. I know its a catch-22 situation since no Ottawa members=less Ottawa-area activities. I believe 3 of our group (Steve S, Kevin C, and myself) are already NSXCC members, and for now thats all I can foresee joining. We're going to chat a little more with you guys when we meet up in ALMS to discuss some ideas we have and hope more NOGO members join the bigger group in the near future as I really believe its a worthwhile thing to do.

Cheers
John

Thanks for the efforts John.

Yes, most of the members are in the GTA, but there is so much to be gained via membership. It is unfortunate that Camco is not interested, because our incredible relationship with Erin Mills was built AFTER the NSXCC was formed. The same can happen in Ottawa - we just have to find willing partners.

The greater the membership there is, the greater our power will be to negotiate benefits and there is definately power by using the national body as a foundation. We are a registered and insured company; we are not a typical car club.

Lets find out where else you can get your NSXs serviced and lets work something out there. If Camco isnt game, thats fine, we can go around them and get you cheap parts through Erin Mills.

I've posted a link to this thread on our list for the to come and comment on.

There are more things than just service for members. If you paid your membership dues and just came to ALMS (which is free for members) you'd have got your money's worth.

This year, founding members got NSX golf shirts, plus all ALMS attendees get a cool NSX Shirt courtesy of Erin Mills.

We spoke to Erin Mills about hosting a specific out of towners meet on Saturday where they'd bring in the Techs to work on out of towners cars while we met, ate and drank.

If we had more Ottawa cars we'd hold meets out your way, and you can hold your won meets too, plus plan drives, etc. all covered by our insurance.

Our plan is not to charge membership dues and then just use the cash to pay for Toronto-centric events. We hope that the money raised from members in Ottawa would get spent top benefit the Ottawa members.

But like all things, you get out what you put in - the Ottawa Chapter will be what you guys decide to make it.

I can say as a non-Toronto member that even though I don't get out to every event, I still find the club to be great fun.

Having spoken with Stu, but not the rest of the executive yet, the plan will be that if the Ottawa members want to host an event, or have one on their own, that they would be able to apply for funding on a per capita basis. That way you have access to your funds, and still be able to benefit from the discounts, events, insurance etc.

I'd like to plan a cruise down to the Cambridge area next year. I think a cruise up to the 1000 islands would be great to!

It is fairly easy for me to make Ottawa events too.

Im from there.

All my family is there.

Put a hitch on the Sienna and tow the car if needed. The poor trailer will get crushed under the downforce!

I agree with sending Ottawa some funds. We are all about increasing membership through making it worth everyones while. The framework is in place for Ottawa to do great things with. We will help the best we can.

Hi. Its Steve, one of the Ottawa members. I look forward to meeting you all at the ALMS race, and discussing what we can do together in the future.

John Chu told me when I joined that I would be getting a shirt with NSXCC on it. I would be glad to pick that up at the ALMS race. A medium preferably but a large will do.

See you soon.

Steve

I'll be there Sunday and look forward to talking to you too!

Its being arranged as we speak! PM me your height and weight, we may have a few options size wise, but we are running low.

Personally I love the idea of a well integrated NSXCC with Ottawa as a local chapter. I have met most of you guys in the GTA (btw my home town is Bolton) and think face-to-face interaction will do wonders for speeding things up to this goal with the local Ottawans. I hope when the other 2 NSXCC members from Ottawa are down for the alms this weekend it will generate some momentum out east :)

One very good idea Steve S came up with is a Calabogie track day next year (or even this fall!). We both run our cars with a local club here called Xclusive Auto and they have a bunch of dates reserved this year, usually on Thurs which works poorly with my schedule. If we can confirm 5-10 participants we can definitely attach with their group which will be an easy event to organize. I know for a fact you guys will love it (ask Daria).

Another idea is something like a 1000 Islands cruise, BBQ or something social midway between TO and Ottawa. There are rumours of NSXs in Kingston you know ;)

John

Im definately up for a Calabogie trip. Dissapointed that I didnt make it out this year.

I'm up for a cruise to 1000 islands and a stay over at a resort - Unlike whipped Dave, I've been to Calabogie!

Actually, Calabogie is a great drive and could be fun for NSXs to go there and hang out - most of our Members are shicken to take their cars on the track.
