Was on holiday in Sydney around the Manly/Mossman area a couple of months ago, and nearly crashed my rental car when i saw this NSX advertisement... i don't think honda has advertised the nsx in years (quicktime movies on the web don't count!). So i'm posting this in case anyone's curious.

(people looked at me like a weird when i was taking his photo!)

Cool. They should advertise like that up-here. The Acura/Honda logo is missing or do people now that NSX is made by Acura/Honda instantly down-there?

Enzo: agreed. If the NSX is their "latest F1 result" then they are using ten year old technology... ;-)

The NSX is made by Honda here in Australia; most people dunno what an NSX is, but i've educated all my mates. :-)

i don't know about the logo because as you can see it's not in a very good location. The ad was on a main road, but unless u were in a double-decker bus, u couldn't see the entire ad. (my photo is the best i could get from ground level). It still got my heart racing... =)

Wish honda would do more advertising here. At the moment they should commission me coz of all the posters/wallpapers i put up at work. *grin*

I'm going to visit friends in Brisbane in a couple of months and I'm stopping in Sydney for a couple of days. I would love to see this ad. Where exactly is it? Do you remember? - like the nearest intersection?

i can't be exact, coz i was a tourist (and the whole world became surreal when i spotted that advert!

... but coming from Sydney, u go over the harbour bridge, and get off at an exit which leads to Mossman... it's a long windy drive, but u just stick on it. It's on the righthand side of the mainroad as u travel through mossman... u can't miss it coz it stands OUT at a distance. Sorry i can't be more specific than that. if u r really desperate, u could always find out the route that bus 230 takes (feature in the photo!

..or actually, when in Sydney called the "Recycled Designer Clothes" on 908-2845... this is in the photo too i just realized!!! =)

The Australlian 2001 brochure shown on the NSX prime opening page shows the Honda NSX with oval tail pipes, the pre 2000 style door inserts, and talks about 6spd with dual disc clutch. Didn't honda update the NSX in 97 for all markets?

The six-speed and 3.2-liter engine was introduced in all markets. I have no idea about the exhaust tips.

What are you referring to regarding the door inserts? How did they change in 2000?

Incidentally, if you're interested in seeing the 2002 NSX as shown on Honda Australia's website, click here. It does not have oval exhaust tips.

Thanks for the directions NeoNSX, I'll try to find it. My friends in Australia have no idea of what an NSX is. All of them told me they don't have them in Australia. All of them are in their late 40s early 50s, would that have something to do with it?

I'll take lots of pictures with me and I'll get them "educated"

The brochure lists the 3.2 motor AND the double disc clutch. In 97 with the 3.2 engine Acura switched to a single disc clutch. Why would they keep the double disc for other markets?

In 2000 the door inserts switched from gathered leather with gathered pleats to smooth perforated leather. The brochure shows the old style inserts.

The clutch issue is probably a mistake in the brochure. You can put the single-disc clutch into the older cars (if you also change the flywheel), but the old double-disc clutches don't just swap into the 6-speed transmissions.

Some of the US brochures have had technical errors over the years as well. The first one that comes to mind are the Zanardi brochures which listed the final drive gear ratio as 4.6 when in fact it was unchanged from the original 4.06 ratio.

Or, just refer them to the Honda Australia website.

1HOT NSX: No probs. Hope i provided enough info. If you remember, let me know if you find it again... i might be going back to Sydney in Nov. so i'll look for it again.

nsxtasy: ...or send them a sexy-wallpaper.

actually, i reckon u need to see an NSX in real life before you can spot them... with a pix, they somehow look different (smaller in real life than they seem) ... i can understand why people confuse the NSX with ferrari/corvette ... actually, this would be a good thread to start... i might do that.

in the past 24months, i've identified six different NSX (2red, 1black, a mate saw a yellow NSX-T, plus a red '92 and a black '95 in a caryard)

In the same period of time, i would have seen double that in Corvette's. Mostly older models, so i couldn't ID them.

What an absolute shame. =( I contribute this to the zero-advertising that Honda has done for the NSX in Australia. The NSX was their first exotic, and they needed to pump more into marketing to get noticed.

This is a really interesting point. Several sources in documentation refer to the clutch setup in the NA2 NSX-R as a twin disc. This is interesting, since this would require a new input shaft than what is found in the 6-spd tranny now. I am still waiting on an answer to this question, however, solid information even in Japan is scarce.

Cheers,
-- Chris
