I'm wondering why many seem to use Mobil 1 Synthetic. I'm thinking about switching to Valvoline Full Synthetic for my NSX since I've had good results in my other car. Just looking at the usual stats, it seems like there are alternatives that compare just as well.

Synthetic Oil (10W-30) Flash Point Pour Point Viscosity Index
Valvoline Full Synthetic 467.6 F -42 C 149
Exxon Superflow 482 F -48 C 148
Quaker State Synthetic 440 F -40 C 148
Mobil 1 Synthetic 455 F -45 C 145
Castrol Syntec 415 F -25 C 143
Redline Synthetic 518 F -58 C 136

Does anyone know the Sulfated Ash wt percentage in Mobil 1 synthetic? I can't find this anywhere. Valvoline, and Castrol both document this.

I got all the info at their websites except for Castrol. That was found on an AOL member site that posted what they got from Castrols Technical Support. Those numbers could have changed because I'm not sure how old that is. The article is old because it still compares against API SH and not SJ or SL. I'm sure its better now, I hope.

Castrol's original synth oil was dyno oil base with synthetic polymers added. I think Mobile even sued them for false advertising. They (Castrol) now have a "fully synthetic" product as well.
