Hi

Almost december and here I am out driving again :) Fantastic :)

Well I took the car out on friday and did some city cruising. The roads were dry and I decided that if the weather was still good I would try to go to Abisko in Sweden today sunday.

Abisko is about 50km from the border between Norway and Sweden. The roads were okey. About 120km from Narvik to Abisko.

Here is the first picture. It was taken on the norwegian side of the border going up onto the mountain. I stopped on the road..ran outside over the road and took the picture and then took off again. I had some cars that I had overtaken and I needed to take the picture fast before they caught up with me. I had no time to turn off the flash. :)

Enjoy

This next picture is on the border between Norway and Sweden.

As you can see the roads are snowy. But the snowtires I had on was actually good. Not a lot of stopping power but the grip was better than expected. I actually preferred to drive on the snow rather on what seemed to be good asphalt (usually very slippery asphalt)

Here is a close up of the sign in the back

It says "Welcome to Lappland". Kiruna is a Swedish city about 120 km from the border.

As you can see the NSX is a great "lappmobil" :)

Here is what the roads were like. I have seen how Gheba slides around in his NSX, but I kept it steady all the way. No problem at all, but I took no chances.

Gheba have you thought about changing your nick to Bambi? ;)

Sad that this next picture was fluffy.. It shows the famous "Lappporten"...translated "Lappgate". That is what the mountain chain in the background is called.

This is from Abisko.

Abisko is a small place between Narvik and Kiruna. The prices on grocerys are much cheaper in Sweden and that is why people drive to Abisko.

Abisko is the biggest seller of Coca Cola in the whole of Sweden. It is strange because it is in the middle of nowhere..

As a rookie NSX owner I realised when I came out that I could fit more than I had bought....much much more. But I was out of money. I did my share of Coca Cola buying :)

I hate to say it but Rudolph the reindeer is in the other plastic bags..he is in my freezer now :)

Going home

In the picture you can see the railway tunnel up in the mountain side. Railway is what "made" Narvik. Narvik was built to ship ore from the mines in Kiruna Sweden. We have ice free harbour and the railway transport a lot of ore every day that get shipped all over the world.

This is a picture of "Lappis" a ski resort just on the border. I do not ski, but I used to and the slopes are great.

I do not think they will open until february. It is too cold (well it is supposed to be too cold now)

Last picture.. took this picture just when I came up a hill and saw Narvik. Little bit fluffy because I am moving.

I hope you all enjoyed the pictures. Seems like I get a change to drive the NSX a weekend every month. January trip next :)

Beautiful and cold senery.

Awesome pics!
nice scenery!
how much cheaper is the coke there ?

Beautiful pictures , Martin !
But surely it 's a danger to drive your beautiful NSX on the snow and ice roads from your country.
Martin , good luck for driving in the winter and are careful to your NSX ! ;)

Greetings from Belgium !

Reminds me of the movie Die Another Day.:D

Jin1796: I think Single Samurai have been here and kidnapped Miss Barry then because I did not see her anywhere :)

Nsxbox: About the coke.. Hmm not sure. But it is cheaper. I never buy that much coke in Norway so I have forgotten how much it cost.

NSX/MR2 Yes it was very cold. I was freezing when I went out to take pictures. It was also windy so it was very cold.

Raymond: Yes ofcourse it is a danger to drive the NSX on these conditions. I was prepared to turn and drive home if the conditions where not good.

In the lower part (around Narvik) the roads were free of snow. On the mountain I drove slow (slow=about 60km/h) for a couple of kilometers and I felt that it was okey grip. Probably because of the low temprature.

I could do 110 km/h without a problem. But there was not grip to stop from that speed if anything happend so I took it very easy. It was a lot of fun and the NSX was very nice to drive. Very controlable. The ABS did not come one during the trip at all.

Wow! Many nice candidates for the POTM!!!

If you have them in hi-res... please send them to me!

Who would have ever imaginated my NSX going there! :D :D :D

Hi

Yes I will get them on their way to you when I get home from work.

I was amazed myself. I did not think that I would drive on these conditions. I took the car out because it was nice and dry in the lowlands. Then it worked very well on snow too. But the NSX is going into the garage when I see snow in the air again :)

Regards
