Question for the gurus out there. This just started happening this evening.

When I am backing into my garage (slowly and slightly slipping the clutch) I hear this awful creaking type noise. Once the clutch is fully out, the noise goes away.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? It is pretty consistently reproducible and just happened all of a sudden.

Thanks in advance!

more information

Another thing that I've noticed just yesterday (day 2 of the problem) is that the car now will randomly make a scratching/rubbing noise while the car is moving; a symptom that most people observe when they need new brake pads.

I checked my pads visually. The outer pad seems to have about 1/4" left (about the same thickness as the backing material). Therefore, I think I should be OK.

Hopefully this extra bit of information will give somebody some ideas as to what could be going wrong? Otherwise, its off to the shop I go...

This does indeed sound like a disc brake pad warning. Check both brake pads. Your inner one may need replacing (which means replace both sides).
