Next NSX to get upcoming Super-Handling AWD system?

Nice concept pics of the next generation RL/Legend. I've always felt that Honda would go with an AWD system before they went RWD on their sedans. 270HP always seemed like way too much for any kind of FWD vehicle. Transferring more power to all 4 wheels OTOH, well, that's a little different.........yummy. :D

I haven't looked at it all, but does it say how much more weight the system would add?

Other than weight, I don't know why people knock AWD. The 911 TT has it and it is a monster.

This is not your typical AWD system...

Here are some links. It's amazing!

I can't picture this system weighing less than 250lbs including the AWD gear, and I'm not sure it's of much benefit versus a sharp LSD in a rear wheel drive only car anyway.

No thanks.

Let's go back to basics Honda by keeping it simple, fast, and light. Everything else will take care of itself. :)

So does the likes of Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo if I'm not mistaken. A 3000lb NSX with SH-AWD and hopfully 400+HP would be badass...

I assume that drive-line power losses would be comparable to
the VTM-4 system the MDX uses? Probably more than LSD?

One of the cars that amazed me quite a bit was my friend's S4 Avante (station wagon). The grip on that car was insane!!!

car and driver had a spy photo of the RL. It just looks like a bigger TL.

I think every review I've read about the TL is that it would be able to compete with likes of bmw if it was rwd with 270hp. Well awd seems good too.

I don't know about awd on an nsx...despite lambo and porsche, it would be unferrari like :D

The SH-AWD system is feasible for the Legend/RL; any drivetrain losses/extra-weight would mean very little for a car designed to transport people in comfort. There's a discussion on this system's "performance vs. safety" bias on the Legend forums right now, and I am convinced SH-AWD is predominately an all-weather feature, not a GT-R beating performance upgrade. I think it would be silly to have this on an NSX, at least in the way it is described in the short movie.

However, it probably does not weight as much as normal AWD systems (looks mostly electronic...?) and it could probably be modified for performance-duty, but I feel that would take a lot away from the raw-and-pure, simple driver-fun associated with the NSX.

Agree. I've test driven a Lambo Gallardo, and it's going to be my next car, but even still the steering is more vague than my 3.2L NSX. I'm not sure if it's the 4WD or what, but it seems like you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want direct and precise steering, even if power assissted, you have to go with RWD only.

That being said, I don't give a crap about steering feel in a luxury sedan, and if it doesn't weigh that much then AWD would be fine on a nice RL.

The SH system in the prelude added about 75lbs...but the SH-AWD is more complicated.

I don't know if it makes sense to put that in an NSX. If people are worried about it being underpowered, the last thing you would want is more weight.
