Hey all! Just wanted to join in. I've been looking to get into the NSX of my dreams for years, but recently I've found that even private party sales are asking dealer prices and even above retail for their NSXs. Is this normal?

Also, any reason anyone wouldn't go for a 1995 NSX-T with 42K miles on it if the guy didn't have service records? He claims to have owned the car for 4 years, will be 2,000 miles away from me so I'll have to travel a ton to get the car home, unless I find someone who can help ship at a reasonable cost.

Currently the car has a KBB PPR of $31,100 in good condition. In all honesty the car looks nearly mint. KBB Dealer Retail is $37K, and he's trying to get $39K. I feel this is absurd, as he's not a dealer and will not be able to stand behind the product or give me somewhere to turn if something goes horribly wrong. Is KBB's PPValue wrong at $31K? He has NOT done any of the major 60K mile service or Timing Belt/Water pump replacement, so I have to figure I'll be on the hook for getting these completed as well.

What do you guys think? Price is a major factor here, especially on a car that's so far away.

Sorry for rambling, but I'm just curious as to what people in the know think about this.

Have a great day!

Brian

KBB has ZERO ZERO ZERO effect on NSX prices.

it is completely inaccurate.

$39,000 for a 42K 1995 is ballpark for sure. if no service is done, I'd expect to maybe take it for $36,000, taking into account the cost of the service and the standard amount someone asks above what they'll take.

it IS is car, so he has the right to tell anyone who offers $38,999.99 to take a hike.

just remember KBB doesnt work on the NSX

I think thats about the right price for the nsx!!! Just make them a deal.....Say that you'll pay 38,000 if they get the service up to date!!! The car is only worth how much the buyer is willing to pay for it!!!!!

Thanks so much for the responses. I didn't want to sound clueless, as I've owned, bought, sold, and raced motorcycles for decades, but just didn't know how to value this car. I will check out the links and see what they tell me.

Much appreciated!

You could find one with similar miles and all records for low to mid $30k. I know because that's what I bought and sold mine for 2 years ago, when it was obviously newer than it is now.

Identify an experienced NSX mechanic in his area, and arrange to have the car inspected by that mechanic, at your cost. (Expect to pay 1-2 hours of labor at $80-120 per hour.) You can do this before committing to buy the car, or you can commit to buying it (even in writing) contingent on a successful inspection. This could save you the cost of an airplane ticket (or a lot more), and a whole lot of grief.

If the car has had NO maintenance, here's what you can expect to pay, aside from any unscheduled repairs that may be needed (e.g. clutch, A/C):

Replace timing belt and water pump: $1200-1500.
Replace cooling system hoses (same time as above): $300-400.
30K/60K/etc scheduled maintenance (fluids, filters, valve adjustment): $900-1200.

Once you have all this stuff up to date, you shouldn't have to worry about most of it again for quite a few years.

$38-39K is reasonable if all the service is up to date. Otherwise, you can deduct the $2400-3100 cost of the above items from that.

Thanks again for the info. I've decided to pass on his car. I'm just not willing to pay over what I view as retail for anything. All of your opinions helped, but NSXTACY really drove the point home, and since he can't produce any maintenance records I have to walk I think. Sound right?

I think you made a very smart and informed decision.

Thanks guys. Now keep your eyes out for a deal on a clean NSX-T for me and I'll get it!!! PM me if you find anything, but I'm not going to pay $40K for a 1995 with 62K miles on it.

Thanks all!
