Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a long time lurker and finally was able to join nsxprime (I would always try to register but it would reject my email address). Everyone on this board seems extremely knowledgable regarding the NSX.

I've loved the car ever since I test drove a 2000 or 2001 back in Sept of 2000. I've done a bunch of searches on this board to learn the differences between the NA1 and the NA2.

I am currently looking at a 98 NSX-T. Black with Tan interior, 6 speed. Vin # JH4NA216XWT000224. It has 62k miles on it and dealer is asking $42,888.

Car Fax is clean but it seems like it was taken to the dealer a lot for service in 2002? Why?

I'm not in a rush to buy. I'd rather wait to find the perfect car, preferably a NA2. My bduget is around $40k give or take. Does this look like a good car?

It could mean owner #3 was very picky and also wanted to get stuff taken care of before the warranty expired.

For me its seems a few thousand to expensive with the mileage, also no mods done etc, I think that if you keep scanning the PRIME for sale forum you will find the perfect car eventually with maybe some tasty mods that you would want aswell.
Guess the owner in 2002 just liked to maintain well. What was done ?

Maybe a bit high on the asking price, however for me I prefer and made certain that I purchased a vehicle with no mods. That way it is done the way I want, not the PO. Good luck with what ever you decide!!

Welcome aboard. The 3rd owner probably is doing 30K recommended service early from the mileage log on your post. The car looks clean. Mileage is a little high for a 98 (my opinion). My 97 has only 15K miles (skewing the curve) - the 2nd owner put less than 4000 miles in 7 years (that helps to keep the mileage down on mine). I think most Prime members put less than 7500 mile per year. Since this is a dealer, offer them $40,000 and see what they say. A $40,000 offer is not a ridiculous offer where they are going to laugh in your face. Good luck with your search.:smile:

ok heres the deal , no one can tell you what to spend with out seeing it , i spent last sat . checking it out. car is in good condition , needs timing belt serv .as per elite acura in maple shade n.j. ( dealer who ser. vehicle for last owner) i do not want a black one but i wanted to let my wife see it and take her for a ride . the car felt good, motor strong ,no problem with clutch or synchros in tranny,but this car has seen weather,the drivers side window did bind in the closing mode,a/c was blowing at 42 degrees , they had some monkey clean the engine comp. and blew the paint off the valve covers Iguess they never heard of simple green ) also the front facia has been repainted but thats to be expected i dont think the owner beat it i think he treated it like a honda and drove it. i know you can get it for less than their asking price because they want it off their lot and i felt they were pretty decent guys to deal with. i hope i gave you a little insight ,good luck

thanks for the description. The dealer did tell me someone came down from New York to look at it on Saturday.

When you say the A/c was blowing at 42 degrees. Do you mean it was working great, nice and cold, or that there is a problem with the A/C?

How do I fix the drivers side window bind?

I'm not 100% sold on Black, probably my last color choice (too hard to keep clean).
 
When I picked up mine the TB/WP service had been recently performed and the the receipt was for $2,010 from an Acura dealer.
 
sorry for the confusion ,a/c blowing 42 degrees, in local traffic is good, if i was on a highway cruising and turned blower speed down i am sure i see 38-40 at center duct , as far as the window i am not sure until the door panel is removed , it maybe as simple as lubricating the window track system ( it only binds at a certain postion in its travel)or maybe the window reg is tired ( which can be expensive) the passenger side window seems ok

I spoke with their manager. One of the rear quarter panels has been repainted, one of the techs noticed while on the lift. The owner had 4 nsx at one time traded it on a porsche. Not much for records. They did say 40k is acceptable but probably will take 38, I do like the interior, but price goes up after timing belt service, your call good luck.
 
sounds way too cheap, i wont buy an nsx w paintwork, its probably been hit, also does that say 5 owners??????????????????

5 owners doesn't mean to much since there's tons of situations for selling a car. I mean yes, the chance of someone just buying it and dumping it because of problems is greater since that increases as the number of owners increases, but I'm the 4th owner of my nsx and it runs like a champ.

If one of the rear quarter panels has been repainted, does this mean it was in some type of accident?

If that's the case, maybe i should wait until I find a better one.
 
maybe it was an unreported accident,maybe just a repair for scratches , i didnt have car on lift so i can't tell you if qtr. panel was changed , i can tell you the front fascia was removed and painted but thats not unusual, you can take car to a body shop and have them inspect it or get in touch with last owner (assuming he had it painted --- amy at elite acura might be able to help) . i ve been looking for an nsx for almost a year ,i am in no hurry, but if that car had been red,silver or white it would be in tarrytown now,

Looks like a clean nsx if the color combo is what you're looking for. Service and carfax seems to check out. Yes, some owners are pickier and usually service their car more often than others..which is a good thing (ie..preventative maint., etc.) However, I would offer 39 K and give them space to move up, but no more than 40 K due to mileage. Good luck!!
