Google "mid-engined Corvette" and these rumors have been around since about 1969.
I think it would be cool...but I'm not holding my breath, Ford's mid-engine only lasted 2 years (2005/06)

This article speculates that the C8 ("Zora" model?) might finally be the true mid-engine Corvette that has been speculated about since the 1960's.

I've also heard that the Corvette would be mid-engine ever since I was a kid. I don't think GM will do it because it would piss off the Corvette purists. Imagine if Porsche decided to make the 911 with an engine in the front? To quote Bill Murray from Ghost Busters "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!"
