This is a follow up to the post I made back in 2013 (see bottom for an image of its first page). At the time, I installed a conventional Double Din system with 2 coaxial speakers in the doors and left the Bose subwoofer unplugged and in place for several years. Last year I removed the subwoofer and took advantage of its removal for additional passenger leg room, which I did not want to give up. It was my son that said "Dad, you need more base!" that got me looking for a solution that while adding sound quality, did not take up the legroom I had gained or compromised the car in another way.

I searched for a compact powered Subwoofer and built several 3D cardboard boxes that matched their dimensions to see if I could find a place to position it and not have to compromise too much. The following pictures describe my solution. I found that the Pioneer TS-WH500A would work best, and so far I am very pleased. The one learning that is not obvious in the pictures is that because the subwoofer only has 2 mounting screws (one in each corner) and transmits sound from both its top and bottom, I needed to double side foam tape the subwoofer to the plywood to keep it from turning it into a world class buzzer.

PS To answer the questions about what is on the side of the seat in image 2, I'm in Houston, it's 95 degrees with 90% humidity and in the bright sun. Even my palms were sweating...
