Hello, I have been checking out NSX Prime for the last two years and just signed up not too long ago. My search for an NSX finally came to a close last week with the purchase of a 1991 NSX Canadian car with only 85000 kms on it. My search brought me to Saskatoon last Monday where the owner had it nicely detailed and ready to go. After a bit of negotiating, the keys were in my hand and I began the trip home to Cold Lake Alberta. The next day it was not running the best when I had it booked in for an out of province so my brother and I changed the spark plugs, cleaned the coil packs, and did a compression test. Everything checked out except 1 cylinder had lower compression so my brother blasted compressed air back through the gauge and it must have dislodged a chunk of carbon and the compression checked out. So we used combustion chamber conditioner through the throttle body and all is well. I had some spirited driving on the way back from Saskatoon and the car had carbon build up. Definitely an unmolested NSX was the way to go for me and now I can modify it the way I want. For the most part I intend on keeping it stock except for wheels, exhaust and possibly lowering it a bit. I have a few photos here but nothing special. There are a few quirks to the car such as a blown speaker that should be fixed this week, snap ring range car, and the tcs slows the car down so I leave the traction control off. I would like to give a shout out to RSX Type-S for helping me out with the information to purchase this car. After he gave me a drive in his 94 I knew for sure I still wanted an NSX. This car fits perfectly in with my collection of a 1990 300zx coupe and my 91 MR2 Turbo (all Canadian cars)

Looks like a keeper, congrats!

Z32 owner too huh? Sweet, I used to have a 1990 Slicktop.

Congrats! Great looking car.

I don't know how much reading you've been doing about the OEM stereo system but it's made by BOSE which means that each door has a combo speaker+amp setup. Although you think you may have a blown speaker, it's much more likely that the amp is not working properly. This is a very common problem and is caused by leaking of the catalytic capacitors on the amp circuit board. The cheapest fix is to send them to NSXPrime user BrianK for repair and it's about $80 per amp. Given the age of the car, you might want to send all the amps to Brian for refurbishment. There are 3 .. 1 in each door and 1 in the passenger footwell that drives the sub and the rear center speaker. Of course, in order to send them out for repair, you will need to remove the door panels to get at them. There's an excellent writeup on how to do that here:

BTW .. if you aren't already familiar with the NSX Wiki on this site, you'll want to check it out. You can find the link on the red action bar at the top of most pages.

Congrats on the purchase. Its a great feeling isnt it? Owning your dream car?

Thank you I actually already have a pair of enclosures and amps coming from Beatles from the classifieds. At least then there will not be as much downtime.

Congrats! Great looking car.

Congrats on the buy. I have a set of H&R lowering springs if you are interested. They lower the car about 1.5 inches. PM me if you are interested.

So I did a couple of searches and was hoping for some input. This is how my car sits now with stock ride height

This is how I want it to sit

Would you suggest to go with H&R springs with OEM shocks or Bilsteins. Or spend the big money and go with KW Coilovers. I am strictly after removing fender gap and going to stock alignment settings.

If you are not planning to track the car and just going for ride comfort and appearance, I'd do the Bilsteins on lowest perch. It's been discussed ad nauseum here.

BTW those 5Zigen FN01C's? Size?

Gray/Black is very nice and not seen around much - remember what Uehara said, "all NSX's should have a black top"

Love how you are keeping it all Canadian - good job!
I agree - Wheels, Lowering, and Exhaust are all tasteful and necessary mods to keep the car in tune with our century :)

While I agree with Oyagi, this might not give you the aggressive drop you are looking for. Bilsteins on lower perch give you a drop of about 3/4" and it appears you might be looking for more.

Check out the NSX Wiki (off the red action bar at the top of most pages) and in the section called "Modifying your NSX", there is a suspension section in the handling area which has a number of links you might want to chase.

I actually just bought QPDO's old setup with stock struts and H&R springs to try out. I guess I could always get the Bilsteins later with lower perch and run the H&R's so I am guessing about a 2.5 drop total. I will try the 1.5 for now.

Dropping the NSX 2.5" will make it almost useless to drive anywhere. You will probably get stuck on speed bumps and have significant issues with getting in and out of places that have any type of curbs. Plus, your alignment wil be challenging to say the least.

Nice purchase!
Another NSX in Alberta! There seems to be a growing total lately.
I like the silver with the traditional black roof. Without the black roof the car will just blend in.
If you ever have it in Edmonton on a weekend let the rest of us know and we can meet up.

T this is the way mine is drop and I always got to watch sidewalk everywere, it's rough out there specialy in Qc all the roads have all sort of crazy big hole...the lowering of nsx look is amazing when drops perfectly and good size of mags/tires

Now you can start contributing to the shoe collection, er, tires and wheels section.

So my brother surprised me yesterday with having my car lowered. It does rub ever so slightly on the front fender liner if I hit a big bump but nothing that bothers me.

Since you're from Cold Lake, I presume you know about the upcoming 'race the base' event. http://racethebase.ca/
Sounds like a fun time. I was at a show and shine in Regina this weekend and a number of the cars were planning to be there .. a white Diablo; a black Gallardo; and a wicked orange Gallardo with twin turbo which reportedly has dyno'd at 1400+ hp on race gas. I hear there will also be a large ZR contingent from Calgary.

What size front tires are you running?
