Hello!
I am new to the NSX forum and am down in Southern CT, along the shore.
At present I do not have an NSX. My fair weather (Remember That?) car is an ERA Replica Shelby Cobra 427 SC. This car was built by ERA back in 1992 and has a 427 Side Oiler, Ford Toploader 4 speed Trannie. Essentially everything on the car is correct as it was a replica build. The Cobra is quite a torque monster of a car. Pretty hard to drive slowly as the rear end gears are 3.31's so it likes to lurch under 8 MPH. You can see pictures of it on my website.

My daily driver is a Chrysler Crossfire 6 speed. Frankly a very nice car, quick, and quite thrifty on fuel. It is quite fun as a daily driver and it handles very well.

My other cars are a Lexus SC400 from 1993, this two door coupe' was mine and now my son pretty much does the driving of the Lexus. Another very fine car with the V8 power and perhaps one of the smoothest shifting automatic trannies on earth. It now has 143K miles on it and is still going strong and dependable.

I sure would enjoy catching up with the New England group of NSX owners once the weather turns nice (say in 5 months)!

Welcome, see you in late May unless the weather gods smile upon us early. Where in southern CT are you?

You guys are way down there, maybe a spring meetup somewhere central?

I am in Sharon (NW corner) with a '99 Kaiser. I agree, we Connecticut guys should meet in the middle some weekend in the spring. TyraNSX -- I want to check out the Zanardi. Unfortunately we are presently stuck with a foot of snow. Dreaming of spring.

For a small state, nobody is near anybody. I'm NE, you're NW, the other 2 guys in this thread are SW. Between traffic & cops there are no quick trips. Maybe meet in Middletown or vicinity. Provided we can keep an eye on the cars and not have to worry about door dings & idiots. We got about 8.5 inches here yesterday. OK at 1st, but the sleet got it wet & heavy, then the wind took off & it turned back to snow & whited out for a while. Then the sun came out. Go figure.

On the first Sunday in September, the Rolex Classic Sports Car show is a great venue to meet. I have been there with my Cobra for the last 5 years now. We Cobra guys get to park on the infield in the Esses. Other maques have reserved parking in the various parking lots which are arranged beforehand.

There is a core group of about 5 Cobras that I cruise around with. Our favorite ride is to get onto route 80 just east of New Haven and then drive out east to Essex and sometimes we go on the ferry and cross the river in the Gilette Castle area. It makes for a Nice Ride. We stop for seafood down along the coast on the way back. We are always looking for more guys to cruise with so I will post our plans here when the weather breaks...

Although, last year, we did make a New Years Day coffee run (the weather was warm and the roads dry and very clear) thru the tunnel in New Haven on Route 15. We all group up in the tunnel, slow down a tad and then mash the go pedals at once.

The noise of five big block Cobras opened up is beyond description.... The flames coming out of the sidepipes, upon shifting is priceless...

Middletown would be a very good central area in which to meet. But offhand, I do not know of a venue... worth looking into in the CT Special Interest cruise calendar next year.

On Rt 10, north of 84 by about 1 mile, near the Bristol/Plainville line, is RICK's Manhatten Pizza which has a good sized parking lot and the interior is ALL done up in car stuff. The owner is a car freek. He has a Cobra body hanging from the ceiling, a 57 Chev popping thru the wall, and all the tables are done in a Hotwheels motif. Pizza aint half bad either.

Also, I think that the Marcus Dairy cruise night in Danbury (just off 84 or Rt7) on Saturday evenings is a very welcoming event. New as well as old cars are welcome there. It is a nice event with ample parking.

BTW, if you click on my URL below, you will see my Cobra Bibliography website which catalogs just about everything ever written about the Cobra in Book and Magazine format. On the front page, way at the bottom is a pic of my ERA...

Hey Cobera

Did we meet once at HP Engineering in Narragansett, RI? I met with a guy there, we talked about my 91 NSX, and I was told later this guy purchased a retro cobra. I think this guy was from Mass., though.

Hey BobMc! Sorry but that was not me. Although I have been to HP Engineering a while back. I would have remembered the NSX. That brings to mind a good question though....

Just where do you guys here in Southern New England go for tune-ups, timing belt changes and repairs?

A) A Good Acura Dealer
B) A Tuner / Specialist
C) Do it yourself

The few Acura Dealers (other than Greenwich Acura) in CT seem to have never had an NSX in the lot except in the early days... 1991-1993 from my casual observation. That said, since it is not a common car, I wonder just how much latent knowledge the Acura NSX mechanic/specialist at a dealer really has? Kind of like the same situation that a Viper owner has.

Your feedback and thoughts on this question and your kudos / slams for local Acura - NSX Savy dealerships are very welcome.

A lot of us use Larry B from over in Warwick, NY. He is the current president of the NSXCA, and the east coast guru when it comes to sevicing the NSX. We are very fortunate to have Larry live within a reasonable distance. I had the same reservations when I purchased my NSX.

Thanks for the input on Larry B. I did not know of him. Do you happen to have any details on his operation, ie: shop name, phone, etc. Is he a NSXPrime sponsor?

Is he the kind of guy that would "look at a potential NSX" that I would be interested in buying and give me a punch list of maintenance items?

Thanks for the information.

Just look in the "members list" under "L", not "B". If I had to do it all over again, I would have loved to have Larry with me when I looked at my car, but I have no idea if he has the time. I know he is usually busy (the NSX shop is his hobby, not his day job). Email or send him a private message. Real easy guy to get along with. His shop's name is Asimo Motorsport. Good luck. Do you presently have an NSX you're looking at? Just curious.

Larry B has on more then one occasion went out of his way to go look at a nsx for a potential buyer. He also gave a tech session at the 2004 Nsx National meet on the nsx where he did a tear down of the engine. There are many threads on prime where members give praise to his knowledge and hands on work on there cars. Please post any questions that you might have because there are so many here who can point you in right direction as far as what to look out for. The FAQ on this site is a great place to start before you ask any questions thou because it covers every common problem you may encounter. Lastly I would like to let you know about the annual Northeast holiday dinner which Larry B has arranged and will be at with many of the northeast members.

I just joined today. I came here from the FFRCobra forum following a link. I've considered buying an NSX on and off and am considering it again. My current toy is a Factory Five Racing version of the Shelby Cobra (lower cost version of what Cobera has) and also race a prepared CRX in time trials (COM) and instruct at driver schools at NHIS and Lime Rock. I'm a couple hours north of you SW CT guys in Hopkinton, MA.

If anyone has inputs about running the NSX on the track, I'd love to hear them. I'll continue to search around to try to learn about this.

Cobera,
Welcome. I'm actually relatively new the NSX world myself. I picked up a 92 about a year ago. I'm in Wallingford which is pretty central off of I91. I'd be interested in catch up with any NSX enthusiasts. I’m always looking for a reason to drive somewhere on nice summer days. I know a couple of people with Cobra replica’s. They had them built out of Newington I believe. Nice ride.

Take care,
Mike

Acura Dealer note: I used Morande Acura in Berlin off of RT15. There is one guy there with some NSX experience. He did said that very few come through that dealership but he seemed to have a pretty serious appreciation for the car when I brought mine down for a clutch. I was pretty impressed with some technical information he had as well. It was that or talk it through with Larry who I did contact. All the postive statements about him I mirror. He always seems to be helping out. I hate most dealerships so I was pretty skeptical and already ditched a dealership minutes from my house in North Haven (I have no poor experience with them but never got a good feeling). The Morande dealership in general was a good experience. I would recommend them for the area although I did more of a gut check than a technical evaluation.

Anyone know of a good car & food hangout place in Middletown area? It's time to plan now for when the weather gets warm. Maybe late April/early May?

edit Middletown, CT. Not RI or NY (yechhh!)

I can't be of much help with a recommendation of a restaurant since I'm 1.5 hours away, but count me in for the gathering.

Hey guys,

Well you are all too kind. Thanks for the comments:).

COBERA,

You can drop me a note anytime at [email protected] or give me a call on my cell 201-966-5178. We can discuss what you are looking for and all your options.

Regards,
LarryB

Middletown: I would say you are looking at Harbor Park (I think its still called that, it always changing names) as the most likely meeting place. If you're not familiar its directly off RT 9 where the lights are. If you are going north its on your right on the river. Kind of a nice place, ofter very packed however. Or I suppose you could go up 9 north a bit farther to exit 18, I believe, where there is Rookies Sports bar in a plaza with a plently large parking lot. Those would be my suggestions off the cuff. Let me know, I'm always looking for an excuse to go for a ride and that's only about 30 minutes from me.
