I finally received the NSX-R suspension I ordered from SoS and promptly looked in the NSX service manual at the suspension installation steps. One thing Honda recommends is replacing all of the "self locking corrosion resistant" nuts used to attach the suspension to the strut towers and control arms.
These parts did not come with the suspension. Checking prices I see these nuts will cost a total of nearly $100 from the dealer, which seems like a rip-off to me! So my options are:
1. Buy nuts from dealer for $100.
2. Re-use existing nuts already on the car
3. Buy new nuts for cheap at the local hardware store.
Obviously #1 is the safe choice, but am I just wasting my money, should I just reuse the old nuts? #3 is a troubling choice since the service manual does not specify any strength characteristics and these are suspension parts after all.
