well, technically ANOTHER October member but I didn't receive the car from NY until November
Just a quick history on myself.
- born with a wrench in my hand, if it's in your house or garage I probably disassembled it for fun
- was a crew chief for a professional drift team back in 2002
- worked as a driving instructor and product specialist for just about every manufacturer on the block
- currently 5+ plus years working for Toyota's national advertising agency
Here's where I'm coming from
It was obviously a total loss however do to never fully perusing 'stated value' insurance, I walked with only a $4,000 check and my wadded up car back.
Following the wreck I set my sights on Z slicktop donor chassis, incomplete project cars and those with blown motors with the plan of swapping over every salvageable part. After a few months of not finding a suitable donor and the medical bills piling up (~$65k prior to insurance ), I thought it best to partout it out until the dust settles.
That was it, I was done with the Z.
Months later I began the hunt for a super car on a beer budget of $15k... Ruled out both Subaru's and Mitsubishi's for the 'boy racer' profiling and personal reasons. Good platforms, just not for me. Those which I was perusing included the typical early 90's horsepower cars... RX7's, beat up MKIV NA/TT supras and then on to the wrecked Lotus elises, 1970's 911's, 964, 993 Porsche's with the idea of swapping power plants, speedster replicas, Ferrari dino / mondial, and the list goes on. NSX was added and removed a number of times as they typically fall in the high 20's which was out of my so call cap.
In the meantime I was spending as much possible time getting reacquainted in car control. From karts, to autox and back to the big tracks. (It's strange game you body and mind play after a wreck)
That's me in a track prepped 125whp miata getting my grove back on the Omega at Big Willow
Soon enough I began to wise up and realized that I no longer had the facilities to preform engine swaps, time for major restorations nor the surplus cash to deal with unexpected twists in project builds. And that's when the NSX bug bit. A strong engine and trans was really all the criteria I had. After countless months of cooking my phones battery with craigslist apps scouring the nation, one finally caught my attention. A 91' Black and Ivory in 100% stock form with 53k on the clock. Location New York.
After a few conversations with the owner, I reached out to Larry B on here and arranged for a PPI. PS. Larry, you rock Following the PPI Larry gave me the debriefing and it was on, I needed to see this car. So I booked a ticket which just so happened to align with some work I had out in New York. After letting the owner know I would be in town, he offered to pick me up from the airport! Pretty cool getting swiped up by a NSX from the airport if you ask me. Anyways we went back to his place in the Bronx, did a walk around followed by a TWO hour test drive :biggrin::biggrin: I was sold.
I swore I would never own a Black car again but then again when searching for these rarities, color should be the last thing on your list. besides its nothing a few weekends can't fix
It just happened to arrive the week before the SoCal end of the year cruise. What a way to get acquainted with a new toy than on DeLuz road... (Ortega shown but you get the idea)
Coming from a 493rwhp Z car to the NSX was a bit of a change up... There are those times when I miss that brute acceleration but I've yet to find a corner where this car could not over that Z. I NEVER felt so intouch with a car as I do with the NSX. It's been 4k miles already and every one of those miles I have had a smile.
