Well it’s been a long time coming but I am finally a proud NSX owner again! I took delivery of my 2019 Valencia Red a few days ago at Dick Hanna Acura of Portland!
Like many other prospective owners I pour over these forums and others looking for insight on the Second gen and ownership experience quiet often so I figured sharing my thoughts and experience thus far may help someone still looking.
With the NSX market currently it made the most sense to order a new 19 in the spec I wanted. Valencia Red with the rear spoiler are the only 2 options that were mandatory for me now that the tech package is included on the 19’s.
*Dealer Experience below* Cliff notes: Dick Hannah Acura is great.
As quick as people are to share bad experiences with service I think it’s equally important to share when you’re treated right. I am very fortunate to live near a great dealer that has a good reputation within the NSX community. Dick Hannah Acura from day one treated me how I think anyone buying a new car would want to be treated. I never had to deal with the typical dealer BS, which that alone is huge for me. They currently have a white one on their lot, instead of trying to shoehorn me into that one they were always more concerned about getting me the car I wanted. I ended up placing the order in February, Nick Patoray kept me updated on a weekly basis as to where the car was in the process, even snagging some pictures of it at the PMC. I let them know that if at all possible I’d like to be there when it came off the truck. Thankfully now Acura contracts with a carrier that has a tracker on it. Nick shot me screen caps of its progress across the country on its way to Portland. Sounds like a small thing but it’s nice when you’re waiting to pick up the second most expensive thing you have ever purchased. It showed up at 8:30 pm, it was a real treat to be the one to take the car out of its shipping wrapper and snap a few pictures. I arrived the following day after the tech inspection and detail were completed. Ernie Coombes one of the NSX sales specialists took his time walking over the car with me and pointing out little things that I didn’t know about. One fun thing was the little easter egg in the system settings if you repeatedly tap on the OS version… To sum it up I had a great experience with Dick Hannah and would recommend them to anyone if they are at all in the area!
The Car:
Simply put it’s amazing. I imagine most enthusiasts eventually figure out that there is a lot more to the enjoyment of driving than numbers. My GT-R on paper is as fast if not faster but I can without a doubt tell you this car is significantly more fun to drive, that’s a blessing because it was also significantly more expensive! Ha Many reviews and other owners have probably summed up this car better than I can, but at the end of the day when you’re buying a car like this it honestly just comes down to how it makes YOU feel. For me and the funds I could put forth for a car like this I couldn’t be happier. I am really enjoying the “Jekyll and Hyde” nature of the car. The driving modes actually make significant changes as to how the car behaves. With the GT-R and any other performance car I’ve driven the driving “modes” have always felt very similar. The Sport Hybrid power delivery is amazing. I am even more impressed by the pure EV “quiet” mode than I thought I would be, its really entertaining to cruise around a parking lot in EV mode and its great for stop and go traffic as well.
I was not prepared for the amount of attention that this car gets on a sunny day! It’s the Valencia Red paint to blame, I think… While the GT-R attracted mostly young men the NSX seems to attract just about everyone! It’s a striking car in person, like many things pictures just don’t do it justice.
Cons:
Well the lack of cabin storage is rough and the glue smell from the trunk is still there…. Aside from that I haven’t found many things to complain about. I’m sure some will crop up over the years as with anything. The sound is minorly disappointing but I’ve never really liked my car to be obnoxiously loud, I think the Science of Speed down pipes will be perfect.
To end this long winded post, to any prospective buyer the best advice I can give you is to get behind the wheel of one for an extended period of time. After that if you’re “sold” find a good dealer to work with. There are lots of “opinions” out there on the Gen2, get some time behind one and make your own. Have fun!
