thanks for the tip, i do have some history records that came in a folder dating back to 2009. I been working 7 days that i get tired to even go work on the car. i have ordered parts from acurapartsforless. im not really in a hurry to do everything in a short amount of time. my 1st priority is water pump/tb/tension/coolant/cam seals etc...i did contact Johm Zahn from Zahntech Import Automotive because nsxprime listed him as a nsx special list. Quoted me $1825 for the whole job vs dealer $2700, so i will be takinig my nsx there for service while i wait for parts. my water pump is going bad, i think? its making a bad bearing noise? either way with 138k, its due for service. With that $800 i will be saving i will spend it on other things on what he recommends. Congratulations! Welcome to NSX ownership! Yes, they are beautiful cars and are rather simple to work on. Did you have any maintenance history/records for her? It is critical to do some things if they have been neglected. I recently finished a massive endeavor on a new timing belt, tensioner pulley and spring, new water pump with new honda bolts, valve adjustment, sparkplugs, sparkplug seals, new harmonic balancer (crankshaft) pulley (they have been known to delaminate) I did the belt and suspender technique, a shield fabricated by Cedar Ridge Fabrication, really a great guy here on Prime, and the new harmonic balancer....if your harmonic balancer delaminates, in a matter of minutes it will eat through the lower timing belt cover, break the timing belt or at the very least cause the belt to skip a tooth or many teeth and now you will be needing a rebuild of the engine, butterfly screw inspection, fuel filter, alternator and A/C belt, A/C tensioner pulley (overkill, I know) new radiator, new thermostat, changed both front and rear spool valve gaskets (if you notice an oil leak, check these out, they are notorious for leaking over time) , ALL new coolant hoses, new coolant expansion tank, air intake temperature sensor cleaning, throttle body cleaning, new valve cover gaskets, ignition switch and main relay replacement (these were preventative measures because sooner or later your 91 is going to stop running, I am not kidding, lol) flushed brake fluid, but much to my dismay my ABS is giving me the light and now I am working on that.....solenoids may be an issue and/or accumulator not having enough nitrogen back pressure, hence why I got 215ml of fluid out when draining the accumulator. Oh yeah and an oil change with Pennzoil Platinum Pure Synthetic, lol Check out my post for details and pointers!
I got every OEM part from acurapartsforless Deal with Justin over there, they have the best prices, are actually Precision Acura in New Jersey. If you enter code "5NSX" you get an additional 5% off which will help cover you on shipping! Tell them the other guy, Prashant, with the 91 NSX referred you. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me via pm or any of the other great prime members! We all love helping each other out! Take care and enjoy your beauty!
just talk with John Zahn at Zahntech Import Automotive since nsxprime listed him as nsx specialist. i gonna do water pump/tb/tensioner/valve adj/ lost motion, coolant hose, axle boot + parts and labor would put me around $3300 ish with tax and hazard waste. with this big of a job he would drop the engine and it would be easier and save on labor cost while he is doing everything at same time. Acura of Fife quoted me $2700 for just water pump/tb/tensioner. crazy. oh well, Gonna drop this girl off to John first week of Jan.
i ended up doing the work myself. took some time, not that hard to do. i end up doing the lma, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, camp caps, vtec spools, coolant hoses, axle boots, coolant flush. parts cost me about around $1k ish? After doing the work, next time would be much easier. car runs and idles smooth. lma reduce the ticking noise a little bit, but the oem lma were sticking. My idle is better now, less surge +/- 100 rpm. before it was +/- 500 rpm. This was due to my clutch setup with a lighten flywheel. I had to adjust the idle air screw to 1k-1.1k rpm and its just steadily in that range. The thing about working on your own car is that when you take things apart, you can see how previous owners ghetto rigs things to work or put non oem bolts/nuts, or screws that are not even tighten up. I can now focus on the power windows, and this thing is a mess. Please keep me posted. Just got a 92. Looking for a good shop too. Thanks.
