Finally found time to post some pics of my 1993. The car formerly belonged to Yellowpad. But MINE now!!!!!!! Check out the new custom stereo system, you like?

Upgrade list:

Matching painted roof
Viper 2-way paging alarm
OEM size slotted/drilled rotors
Axxis brake pads
Dali Racing engine dressings and hoses
Painted strut bar and fuel injector covers
Zanardi floormats
Kenwood KDC-V7022 motorized head unit
6.5" Infinity 6000CS Reference component speakers
8" JL Audio subwoofer in custom passenger footwall box
Sony XM-460GTX 4-channel amplifier

Sound system definitely sounds a lot better than stock. Wasn't planning on getting the sub really, but my installer made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Plus, the sub DOES provide a more rounded sound experience.

Hey Roger!!! Great to see pics of the stereo install! Had not seen the inside of your new ride yet! :) I'll probably need to get together with you and ask you about your tunes setup and the installer.

Looks Great!!! Especially that red roof! :)

Excellent install, and beautiful car.

For your head unit installation, did you use the SOS console or did your installer just do it custom? For the box in the footwell was there any loss in passenger legroom? If you dont mind me asking, what was the labor cost for installation?

Sorry for all the questions.:D I'm just trying to estimate what an install similar to this might cost.

TIA

Thanks for the compliments...keep 'em coming!!!! hahaha I went to a local audio shop here in San Diego called Tweeter. They're a chain store, kinda like Circuit City or Good Guys, but they do a lot of custom car jobs. I had bids from various shops, but decided to try Tweeter for the heck of it, and by a miracle, got the best price! If you're local, go see Josh at Tweeter in Rancho Del Rey, Chula Vista. Tell him I sent ya! Here's the price breakdown for those interested:

Speakers - $100 from eBay
Amplifier - $100 from eBay
Ampifier cables kit - $10 from eBay
Head unit - $249 from Tweeter
Subwoofer - $79 from Tweeter - btw, absolutely no loss of passenger legroom
Custom installation of head unit using original console - $250 from Tweeter
Custom subwoofer box - $250 from Tweeter
Speakers installation - $75
Subwoofer installation - $80
Amplifier installation - $65

Add shipping and taxes to the above parts and you get the total bill of around $1300. Not bad huh?

Thanks for the information Roger.

For the box, did they do fiberglass?

Thats a cool price.

Hehe, I sure butchered Calvin's car didn't I? I hope he's not upset with me. San Diego meet sounds like a great idea! Hoses were around 80 bucks or so, can't remember exactly. Aaron, if it makes you feel any better, I think you're still sexy with the black roof. ;)

Very Nice, i like how that head unit hides in when it is not in use. Did you get the other side painted to match the console? That really gives it a really flush look It can almost look oem ;) Good job

Ok....Randy.. for saying that your MH side won't be done until after NSXPO..hehe!:D kidding!

Ummm, I never said your's doesn't look good either.:D Remember, the Type-R has a black roof. ;) (Keeping my fingers crossed to see you Wednesday or sooner. :) )

Roger,

The car is looking good. Glad you finally picked one up.

2 things I noticed:

1. I think your engine strut bar is mounted upside down.

2. I can still see the outline of the OEM headunit opening. Since you paid to have it fit the new player, I would suggest taking it back and asking them to work on it a little more so that it doesn't show.

Please don't take what I'm saying negatively. You're doing a great job at modifying the car and would like to see you get the best for what you pay for.

Welcome to the club:)

Hafa Adai Richard!

Yeah about time I joined the club! I know what you mean by the OEM outline thing. It doesn't bother me too much, not too bad when you look at it in person, but still you're right. I'll need them to make it perfect. Looks like it can probably use another coat of paint or something. I have a lifetime warranty on their work, so I can take it back anytime. As far as the strut bar, I had no idea it was upside down. Hey thanks for all your help before I even bought my car!

Congrats on your project.
Have to admit I saw the same problem with the console but wasn't sure about pointing it out publicly for fear of sounding negatively critical (overall it looks pretty good) - however I don't think paint alone will hide it though, probably needs to have a complete skin of filler & sanded (& sanded & sanded .....)
I've been working (& re-working!) my OEM panel & eventually bought the SOS one. Not giving up on original one yet however! (It gives me the option of having a thicker substrate to work with which allows for different profile options around the slot rather than just a thin edge)
One question - did the installer strip off the metal from around the "filled" area? That inerface might be what's causing the problem & might be hard to hide.
OK - I lied - one more question - can we see pics of the sub install, both finished & exposed? Did he make a mold or make it in place? Is he interested in a group buy on boxes?

hmmm

Any of you guys Chamorro (Guamanian)

absolutely no loss of passenger legroom
WOW! So...how did they do that? You already don't have the same amount of leg room for passenger as you do for driver because of the sub enclosure. Are you meaning that the new system doesn't take up an more room than the factory one does or did they build a custom box deeper into the footwell so the two sides now match??

Okay I lied. After further conversation with my installer Josh today, I found out that the passenger legroom did lose 3/4". I could't tell the difference though from sitting there. He also told me that the back part of the sub box is fiberglass molding and the front and sides are made from super-refined MDF. Don't know really what that translates to. I hope that's good. As you can see I'm pretty new to all of this. I'm no audiophile by any means, just wanted something half decent since my old Bose amps were dying on me. So I didn't want to spend too much on this project. And D'Ecosse, you're right about the console needing more than just another painting. He'd have to refill and re-sand before painting again. Damn, you guys are smart! The console actually came out perfect the first time, but I didn't like the color (too light for my taste) so I had him repaint it with a darker color and it didn't come out as perfect the second time. One of these days I'll bring in my car for Josh to fix. Like I said, lifetime warranty on the work so I'm not too concerned. Btw, Josh can be reached at 619-656-1834 if you want to talk to him about a group buy or a single buy or other questions. I'm still pretty embarrased about the strut thing though. Did anyone else notice that? Hey what do you expect from a newbie? haha Thanks everyone for your comments and advice! :)

-Roger

Hey Roger,

Awesome set up! Finally got the sounds updated. Any pics of the subwoofer install? Great job Bro!
