Hello NSX Community,

NSX Subwoofer Box II Introduction

The NSX Subwoofer Box II (NSBII) is a follow-up product from Sylora Systems, Inc. to the successful NSX Subwoofer Box I (NSBI) released in October of 2007. The new NSBII is designed to replace the OEM Bose Subwoofer in the Acura NSX. The NSBII mounts directly to the 3 factory mounting points of the OEM Bose Subwoofer/Metal Covering Plate allowing for an easy installation under the passenger footwell carpet. There is no need to remove welded brackets or the electronic steering unit mounted in the passenger footwell. The NSB II fits directly over these items providing a factory appearance after installation while preserving the original passenger footwell space.

The NSBII features an all new sealed box design using fiberglass composite materials.
The box volume has been increased from 3.5L (.12 ft^3) in the earlier model to 5.5L (.19ft ^3) helping increase the low end bass response. The closed box design should also give the NSB II a tighter bass compared to the NSB I’s ported horn design.

The NSB II is available only in a black polished finish as compared to the multi-colored NSB I design. White emblem decals on the front and a company logo sticker on the back add the finishing touches.

Another improvement in the NSB II is the addition of a spring-type wire terminal at the rear of the box removing the necessity of a dangling speaker wire. The wire terminal has been carefully positioned to allow room for the wires behind the NSBII, not so easy in the tight confines of the NSX.

The NSBII uses brass inserts to mount the Blaupunkt ODW1000HP Ultra Thin 10” Subwoofer. The NSBII is designed to recess the Blaupunkt 10” Subwoofer along with its heavy duty black steel grill to produce a flat profile across the face which maintains the factory look after covering with the footwell carpet.

The Blaupunkt ODW1000HP 10” used in the NSBII is one of the world’s lowest profile subwoofers measuring 2.25” in depth. It is made of high quality parts featuring a heavy magnet, a sturdy cast aluminum basket and an aluminum diaphragm attached via a high quality rubber surround. The subwoofer produces a very tight accurate deep bass. A separate amplifier rated at 125W rms or greater is required to drive the subwoofer.

Looks great. But, the driver needing .3-.5 cu. ft. to give the proper bass response. You say you have .19, so, it would appear that you will miss all the needed bass response from a box being less than half that is needed. The Earthquake SWS10 is rated down to .25 cu. ft. We had it in .35 which created a great range of bass. Not seeing yours installed, but knowing the foot well intimately! I wounder why you did not work to maximize the width of the enclosure to grab as much air space as possible? I assume you are making these over seas. The work looks great and that is also probably how you got the price lower. Keep up the design changes and look to maximize your volume, the end result will be much better!

Is this box available w/out the Blaupunkt 10"?

How can you tell that by looking at a photo?

IT says so in the information post that is linked up in the post.

The Blaupunk sub is rated .3-.5 cuft and the enclosure is .19 cuft.

Although you are going to get bass out of it, there will be a noticeable improvement if the enclosure was a little larger and took better use of space on the left and right side of the foot well.

The Toolman sub V3 has .35cuft and the earthquake sub it comes with is rated as low as .25cuft so it is working in an enclosure as it was designed to play in.

But like I said, this set up should be tons better than stock!

Kudos on the build quality of the enclosure. Looks like a good improvement to the first version. I would agree that more enclosure volume to meet the speaker's specs is an improvement but my first thought was "why not use the earthquake sub?" since it requires less enclosure free air space. Also, the earthquake has a very impressive excursion compared to the Blaupunkt speaker.

Regardless - I got to say - this is an impressive piece of equipment IMHO. Particularly for NSX models that have the Power Assisted Steering module.

If you really want to shake things up, I suggest a small amp and crossover that can connect directly into the output of the NSX wire harness. I've no idea what the power capability of the 12V line is for the sub amp - but if it can handle more than what the BOSE sub is pulling - you would have a definite "plug & play" for the end user. This would eliminate the need for installing an amp and running wires. Obviously it would not provide bass compared to a typical aftermarket system like the toolbox - but for those that simply want more low end than the BOSE offers - I think a simple mono amp with a LPF would suit some of the market.

I recall years ago, a company named CONCORD provided inline amps that were very small and MONO. Probably only about 25 watts but it wouldn't take much to improve over the current BOSE amp. Maybe there is an amp out there already that could be incorporated into the system.

Just an idea...(without any research to back it up). Once again, nice work on providing a good looking item.

yes!!!

John,

As I have posted at an earlier time, your original sub ROCKS! Everyone that has listened to my system agrees that the sub puts more than enough bass. In fact, your sub compliments the other high end components I have had installed in my NSX.

Like I have said, anyone want to hear his original sub, come to Temecula...bring your best music...sit back and enjoy!

All I have to say is.... Don't Hate .... Celebrate!!!!

Hello NSXers,

Sorry for the late reply. I just got back from the Philippines after 5 mos. working on these NSX Subs and other products. I have just tested the NSX Sub II and it sounds fantastic!! It seems to hit the lower notes a bit better than NSX Sub I. I'll be showing it for the first time tonight at SoCal NSX meet.

If anyone is interested in the NSX Sub II please give me a call at c 909-996-8812 or email [email protected]. Thank you.

Here is an order form in pdf format for the NSX Sub II for those who want to print something out. We showed it last night at SoCal NSX meet and many were very impressed with the deep tight bass. This product proves you can use a small enclosure and still achieve fantastic bass response.

John.... kudos and THANKS for the NEW sub!

John stopped by my house yesterday with this perfectly taped and labeled box in the trunk of his NSX. He pulls out the box and hands it to me. I open it with much anticipation...... the new Version 2 sub!

I quickly remove his Version 1 sub from my NSX and drop in his (now mine) new sub. One word... DAMN! Guys.... Johns first sub was incredible... his new one is AMAZING.

We all know how well the Ztoolman subs sound, but who in their right mind wants to chisel off your the power steering unit and mounting points off your NSX? I know I wish I hadn't!

John's new sub is an engineering marvel. For those of you that don't know John, he is an actual Doctor and Inventor. This guy is probably as smart as 6 1/2 or those brainiacs you had in college.... remember the guys that screwed up the entire grading curve.... yep ... John was probably the guy that pissed all of them off!

John has taken the stereo to new heights for the NSX. Before I bought his sub, I had never met him. The reason I speak so highly about him and his product is because I have met him and I have his subs.... version 1 and version 2.

I love the fact that John has taken the idea of adding a sub to your NSX without having to change the integrity of your steering components and made it so good that nobody can believe it.

Here is the bet! Come to my house any day of the week. Bring $100 bucks.... I will bring $500. If you don't like the sub...you get my $500 ... if you like it... I keep your $100. So all you haters... put your money where your mouth is. Please come soon... Christmas is upon us and all the extra cash will be nice!

Owning an NSX means you are willing to accept the fact that a sub 300 hp car can compete and beat 400+ hp cars...that superior engineering can beat raw horsepower. John is the true NSX fan. His sub stands for everything we all love about the NSX.

Lastly ... yes ... I did buy both of his subs.

I have the new sub as well and want to know the best set up as I will add new door speakers (yet to be determined) I want to know as far as amps go can i use one to power both the sub and door speakers or one for each or what?? I want a small clean power well made amp
