Hey All,

I just purchased my First NSX....took about 18 years but i finally got one :) anyways i have a few questions about where to go / who to see in Edmonton. First off i know i'll need a new timing belt/waterpump (i have read alot it should be changed 70000 miles/or seven years) my new NSX is a 99 NSX-T with 71286 Miles. I got a rough estimate from West End Acura for around $1600-2000 (yea pretty rough estimate) but got the impression that there mechanics arn't overlly familier with this car. Is there any better sugestions for a better mechanic more familier (((however you spell it))) with this car ???? mayby South side Acura ??? i live in castle downs.

Second thing i would like to take care of is the stereo. CD cartrige for the 6-pack was missing from the car. SO I would like to replace the tape deck/radio with a CD/stereo inside the car and remove the 6-pack from the trunk but it looks a little complicated. (cutting the molding between tape-deck and radio) Something i wouldn't trust future shop with...Any sugestions on someone around edmonton who has done this type of work before.

Thanks in Advance for any suggestions

Dizzy (marty)

Thanks i'll keep that in mind ... but i would like to find someone closer if possible. I know there has to be someone in edmonton that can do these things, I'm hopen it's just a matter of finding them.

Welcome and congratulations on getting your NSX. You'll find the Edmonton NSX group to be a great bunch of guys never short on advice or opinions.

My NSX was purchased new at West Side Acura and although I am the second owner, it has never been serviced anywhere else. I've been satisfied with the work and they have always treated me right and I believe they do service the bulk of the NSXs in the Edmonton area. Others have used South Side and seem to be happy with their work as well.

Some of us have disconnected the CD changer and installed a iPod adapter in its place. It works great with the original OEM head unit. See this post

Stay in touch through Prime as we have many last minute meets during the summer months. It would be nice to meet you and your car in person.

Marty,
Welcome.
I can't comment on the timing belt / water pump replacement in Edmonton. As per Dan's comment, the group of NSX owners in Edmonton are a great bunch of guys with a lot of wisdom and advice to share.
I also removed my CD changer in favor of an ipod adapter with the existing head unit. Something to consider before a rip and replace of the Bose system. (The speakers need repacing as well, when you replace the head unit, as they each have their own amps and are driven by low level signals.)
I would love to see your car! (I am away unitl August. Once I am back we should get together)

I did my own T belt and water pump last year and I think I paid about $450 CND for the parts from an Acura dealership in Colorado. But that was when the CND was high.

With OEM parts being more expensive here in Canada I can see the waterpump being $400CND and timing belt being over $200CND. Labor I think is about ~8hrs.

I would see what other parts you get or do not get in that quote

ex timing cover gaskets, tensioner/bearing, tensioner spring, valve cover gaskets, cam plugs, idler bearing, etc.

 Thanks everyone for your input....I just ordered the pa11-hon and think i'll give that a try.

As for working on my car i guess i'll probably take it to west side acura.

I'm lookin forward to meeting some of you....you seem like a great group of people. i have a few other questions like "day time running lights on american car. They seem to turn on all the accessory lights which in turn dimms the clock/radio/climate controll lights." Wish i had joined sooner...i could have helped try trakin down that owner who had his car in that parkade for 3 years.......:rolleyes:or borrowed it for a few years ti'll i got my own . That was a great story though.....had to read the whole thread it was so intresting.

later.....gota go get milk at 7-11.....always lookin for reasons to go for a 3 block drive in my new wheels...

I can help you with the DRLs.
take a look using the NSXPrime search tool and you my find my schematic. What you need is 4 diodes and they will operate just like factory DRLs.

DRL

I followed the last post (post #11) in this thread:

http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121729

Took me only 5ish min since there is no splicing or dicing involved.

Timing belt

See if NCC-1701D (Eddie) is willing to do the belt and pump for you. He knows the NSX pretty well and has done a few NSX belts and pumps from what I gathered.

I took my car over to him so that he could quickly skim things thru just to make sure my car pass the OOP inspection.

Re: DRL

Thought I'd take some pix while cleaning the interior today. Referring to that particular post in that thread...

Dashboard lower panel beneath the steering column. Disconnect the footlight and chime connectors so that the lower kick panel can be separated and set aside.

The big horizontal "A" on the label is sitting below and in the middle of the 2 prongs that you need to connect together. Then again, your label might not be in the same exact location as mine.

When you take out the dashboard lower panel, a couple of cylindrical rubber coverings may fall off. They fit over the mounts of the dashboard lower panel...
