New to the NSX and starting the search. I'm at that point in my life where my kids are starting to drive so I can treat myself to a sports car, something I can drive everyday rain or shine. The NSX appears to be a great choice.

My question for the group: which year or years are best for the NSX with auto tranny? I am less concerned about mileage, will be looking for a NSX that has a good service history.

looking forward to the journey

thanks

Asking which years are best for NSXs with auto tranny is like asking what airline has the best food in coach.

But if pressed I would say the newest, lowest mileage NSX-T you can find and afford. I say targa version because it sounds like you are looking for top-off driving. Or at least I consider top-down or top-off (targa) motoring a requirement for calling a car a "sports car." But that's just me.

Check out this in the wiki: http://nsxprime.com/wiki/Changes_by_Year. Just remember automatics had power steering all the way back to 91 and 3.0 engines all the way to 2005.

Welcome

to NSXPrime, Joel  First, good luck in your search for the NSX that is right for you. Although the search can be arduous, it will be worth it.

I would suggest, since you are looking for an automatic, you focus on auto NSX's 1995 and newer. That is because 1995 was the first year for the sportshift, so at least you can play with the gears (even though, dang it, it's only four speeds.... .. . ). Also the first year for targa style roof. We own both an auto and a six speed, and I can vouch that the six speed is much faster! But that's O K, the auto is still plenty of fun

As tof said above, aim for the newest, low-mileage well-kept specimen you can find. With fall/winter coming, it's a good time to be looking. Be prepared to travel to view/inspect it, and when it does present itself, JUMP on it.

Hello Joel,

I owned a 95 auto trans car for 5 years. I received a lot of grief from manual owners about the auto trans and how much of a waste it is. They are right that a manual will out perform an auto, but the auto with sports shift (95 an newer) is still a lot of fun to drive compared to other sports cars. However, if I were to buy another NSX, I would get a manual. Why, I want the thrill of shifting that you don't quit get even with sports shift model. I also want a faster car. The one advantage of owning an auto is when you get stuck in heavy traffic or when you are too tired to mess with shifting. Autos also tend to be less expensive.

Oh, on power steering, the auto has power steering, but the power steering kicks off above 30 miles per hour. Most manual owners do not know this and put down the auto for it.

Price range would help alot. If you can afford an 02+ then that's the best NSX you can get IMO and its also true , fixed lights have the modern look. If you want something you can get for a great price, get a pre 97 NSX and put a little money into the car so it can be changed to the way you like right away
