New F1 points leader

Re: An interesting season; should draw new fans

Yeah, should be interesting to see which one of the front 3 holds up best thru what should prove to be a high pressure season. (I've already written Kimi off as being a slouch.) It should be fun to see if the kid can hold up. Massa seems to be learning well under MS and I look for him to stay in the hunt. Let's see what Fred's got for backbone.

If Lewis Hamilton finish on podium for the remaning races, I wouldn't be surpise to him win the driver's championship without winning a single race.

Keke Rosberg won the 82 season by winning only one race.

Yeah but those were different times, today you can win race only if you drive F or Mc or by some miracle if they all go out for some reason.

IMO Hamilton is very good driver and things are going excellent for him, where 2 are fighting 3rd is making profit :)

Man, Fernando didn't look very happy to see Hamilton become the new Championship Points leader.

Well then he shouldn't have messed-up that damn turn in lap 1! Damnnit Fernando! One of the saddest things for me this last race was what happened to Heidfeld with the wheel nut incident, I'm always rootin for him in the back of my mind. Oh, and Speed's tire incident, that sucked too.

I think we all shed a tear for Scott when his tire let out. The guy just can't get a break. And did you see Heidfeld talking to his crew leader? HE WAS PISSED!

Hamilton is riding on a cushion of confidence now. Hopefully his car holds up because the kid is unrelenting. We have yet to see how he handels a disaster, the deviding point of a rookie versus a pro.

He's had plenty of experience leading up to this and he's kept his cool in situations that would make a lesser driver crack (remember when Massa was breathing down his neck in Malaysia?). My guess is he'll continue to baffle us with his talent in whatever situation gets thrown at him.

But why are we making threads about this? The important thing is SATO FINALLY GOT A POINT!!! :D

What are you doing here? This thread is about established winners. Drink the Sato koolaid over there

Well, as much as I want to see Scott succeed his days are most likey numbered. He hasn't exactly been snakebitten in his short career. He's had plenty of opportunity to show up and he simply hasn't delivered. It did appear he was off to one of his best F1 starts and it was a tough break but those great starts are few and far between. When you can't outdrive Liuzzi consistently you should pack it in. He needs to beat him every race if he has any chance to stay in F1. He's not exactly Kimi in 2005 out there--he really was snakebitten that whole year and should have won the championship.

That was a horrible turn of events for Heidfeld. I'm sure he was angry but if it was directed at the crew leader it was misplaced--it was clearly the lollipop man's fault 100%. I imagine he was trying to express his confusion as to why he still had his job.

I think Heidfeld is defnitely one of the top 6-7 drivers on the grid and should win some races at some point. Better to have a wheel nut come off than an engine or tranny blow, though.

Fernando should have finished higher but that initial off-track incident hurt him. Fernando I'm sure knew this and I don't think the two-time champ is that worried about Hamilton. This is shaping up to be an excellent duel--the four best drivers on two teams. Hamilton looks extremely strong and we know Fernando is the man. Obviously Kimi is fast and Massa continues to look great. If McLaren can avoid breakdowns I'd say I have to give them the early nod for the Constructor's.

Anyways, I root for Honda and they're eating it right now so I don't mind a two-team shootout. I like Fernado and I like Hamilton more than Fisi so I feel better rooting for McLaren than Renault. I don't have any problem rooting against Ferrari although I like Massa and I am very impressed with Kimi's skills.

Should be an exciting few months!

Go Sato!! woohoo. Thats some mighty good Sato grape koolaid!

This season is far from over. We have 4 drivers that could win it all. A couple of DNFs and Hamilton would drop back a bit and that sort of thing happens every season. Sometimes teams make huge gains over the course of the season (remember Ferrari last year?).

I think we'll see Kimi start winning some races yet. Hamilton is a prodigee, having won in every series he's competed in. Alonso - can't write him off, and Massa has more victories in the last 6 races than anyone.

This is exactly the kind of racing I want to see in F1.

Yes, but almost every single formula 1 driver has won almost every other series they've raced in. That is why they are in formula 1.

Seriously, the caliber of driver you have to be to drive formula 1, even as a test driver, is, to use a clarksonism, astonishing.

True enough, but to podium 4 straight races and become the points leader....I mean this guy is good.

It's going to be a fantastic race on Sunday!

I think I'll fly over there and watch it live.

COOL!! Swing by and pick me up. I'm just across the pond in Miami. Just a short stint and we're their mate!!

Oh and um.................HAMILTON......That is all.

I'm just glad both Honda's were in the top 10 (9th & 10th)!

Oh man, I need to get to bed if I'm gonna see this tomorrow. Those cars with weaker earos like Honda, stand a good chance at scoring some points since top speeds are not reached at this track. Let's home Honda can put some points on the board:biggrin:
