DAL Motorsports will debut it's new #99 NSX in competition this weekend at Phoenix Int'l Raceway, in Grand Am Cup. The car has been prepared by Rob Morrison (with a little help from his friends ;) ) over the past several months, and is finally ready to race. Remember, Grand Am rules require 'stock' appearance, so it's not covered with bolt-on bits, but it is seriously light and fast. Here is a spy shot from a recent private test session:

Rules require OE calipers and OE size rotors. This car is equipped with the Stoptech Aero rotor.

Rob,

Is that 2730 with driver or without?

Without!

I actually have a weight advantage being light.

Thank you for lending me your AEM as a backup. Mine worked fine, I also tested yours on the Dyno to make sure it was good. It has my programming in it, I think you will be happy with it. Don’t forget the V-tech harness, and it can be installed and run as is.

It weighed 2566 with 15 gallons of fuel, we need to add weight for the 2730 without fuel.

WOW!!! I'd love to see close-up photos of each part of the car...
What brake pads do you plan to use for the races? Also, how many lap races does this series usually run?

Grand Am Cup races are generally an enduro format... race distance 3hrs, pit stops with fuel, tires, and driver change.

Brake pads are OE size, from Cobalt Friction, a significant sponsor.

Wow! 450 lbs savings off the stock coupe with the addition of the safety equipment and the roll cage!

That is some serious weight savings. Interested to read about your prep work some time...

We could easily remove more weight, but that wasn’t priority with the class were running.

We have made over a hundred unique parts that weren’t available in the NSX market. These parts and the knowledge we learn will soon be used to build functional track or race cars for customers in the NSX community. We have been building new and testing existing parts full time, and will only offer what we find worthy of racing with. We are a young company, but we have been very aggressive in the progression of the NSX platform… the NSX is what we chose to win our races! DAL will soon offer parts that are superior in functionality. The NSX is a great platform with many race ready components from the factory. What we have is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a refined stock NSX that has the performance beyond many of the purpose built race cars.

Here are some early pictures-

are they really running a "FRAM" oil filter. I thought those were junk...

That is a Fram racing oil filter, both better at filtration and flow than anything at PepBoys. Also more expensive. Typical for the big V8 nascar engines.
