JDM cars are worthwhile if you are buying something unattainable in Canada. JDM nsx's are mechanically identical to ours, except for the RHD. Mods also don't add value to a car, so you're paying top dollar for a car you're buying across the ocean, with unclear history through (I hope) a reputable dealer via a series of photos right? I would still look locally. I know most of the major players in the jdm import scene. Who are you going through? I run the GTRCanada.com site and imported the first Skyline GTR into Canada. I can suggest a few guys if you are convinced the jdm route is the way to go. Also factor in $3000 shipping charges and duty and taxes when the car lands, and then land transport to wherever you're located.
I can only give you info based on my experience in Ontario. Once you get the car, you need to get it safety inspected and e-test, both can be done at a local garage. You will also need an appraisal. Once you have all that, contact your insco broker and get a 19A policy to insure it under the appraised value. Mind you this was for a Skyline which at the time they had no data for. An nsx might be different and they might give you NA nsx rates. In Ontario they can insure and register the car using the jdm VIN. In other provinces they might have to assign a proper NA vin. Then you're good to go. Also bear in mind if the car is heavily modified, its likely the ECU is tuned to jdm gas octane (105). It will need to be retuned to your local juice. They measure their octane different there, so if you have access to 94 ocane here, it should be ok but best not to skip steps and take a chance..get a tune done! I have seen many high hp RB26DETTs detonate once landed. Depending on province, they might be anal about DOT headlights and sidemarkers. The west coast provinces are hardest on that. RHD is not that hard to get used to but after a year of ownership I never got used to backing into parking spots. I prefer my LHD nsx.
The nsx is still cheapest in the USA, if you want the best value for your dollar. You also have the benefit of carfax and the ability to fly out to see it in person before writing over a cheque.
EDIT: Is it this one?
