That is where I was thinking of mounting my V1 remote display. Is there something about that location that prevented you from doing so?

I originally planned to install the remote audio unit (not the display) in the ash tray. Instead, I decided to mount it in the console box because 1) I didn't want to cut up the console behind the ashtray insert in order to run wiring, 2) I found that accessing the console box location is less awkward than reaching around the shifter to reach the ash tray location, and 3) I retained use of the ashtray for storing change and other stuff.
