I was at yet another local cruise-in last night and saw something I didn't know existed. It's a Shelby car, badges all over, with an Aurora V8 and some over the top styling.

Anyone else ever seen one of these? The styling is a bit too too for my tastes but the whole package looked pretty well made and the car sounded damn healthy when it pulled in.

Shelby Series I. Came out about 8-10 years ago if I'm remembering correctly. Had multiple delays & price hikes & took a few years to finally apppear well after promised. Pretty rare. I think original price ended up ~$130K.

The car is a "Shelby Series 1". Do a search on google and you will find a host of information on them. Typical Shelby Gig; a hybrid production of his own parts combined with another manufacturer's drivetrain. That doesn't mean that it's not a cool car though...

Tangential comments follow

I am a Ford guy at heart (I was born into it; working class roots and had a Mustang as my first car) and anything that Ford does is just naturally more interesting to me overall than what any other manufacturer does. Ford has some interesting things going on, with the GT, special edition Mustangs, a Series 1 lookalike that I can't remember the name of now, plus their bread-and-butter offerings, like the regular production Mustangs, the best-selling F-series, etc.

Right now I am feverish to buy a certain Mustang Saleen convertible that I know of. On the one hand, both my cars are at least ten years old now and I wouldn't mind moving up to something new. On the other hand, I have a bonecrusher commute and would still have to keep one of my current cars so as to not put a zillion miles on a new car. I would like to give one of my current cars to my daughter who isn't quite old enough to drive just yet, but with two more years of commuting anything that I kept to commute in would have at least 160,000 miles on it, and so might not make a great hand-me-down car anyway. Decisions, decisions...

When I lived in Fort Wayne there was an older gentlemen who had a Shelby Series 1 and a bunch of other cars (F355 Spider, Viper RT/10, etc.) and you would always seen him driving around in one of the cars with his grandkids driving the others with him. Pretty cool guy. :)

That car was used in a very memorable soda commercial with Leanne rhimes and Reba about a year ago or so....I think it was for Dr Pepper
