Man, I'm driving on the 15fwy Northbound getting off of work. As I see this box fly from underneath the vehicle in front of me & nail the left front fender of my car & hitting the sideview mirror. Now I have a good size dent in my front fender, a missing front sidemarker, and a lot of scratches! >.< Not sure where to go from here. Any good suggestions?

Do you have access to the box, to see who it was from?

This would be covered by your insurance, eg uninsured motorist coverage, but whether or not you want to file a claim would depend on your deductible.

Going along the lines of 'misery loves company' I ran over a 'full' 6-pack of soda in my BMW Z3 a few years ago, bending the chit out of an SSR comp wheel and shredding a tire - luckily there was no body (or suspension) damage.

I believe 'accidents' like this is covered as comprehensive damage(I may not have the correct tem). But, as according to my insurance company and also previous incident I had, there is no effect to your insurance premium.

As Spinner mentioned, the repair is definitely above your $250 deductible. If there is no body frame damage, with replacement of parts, and potential re-paint, you're looking in the ~3-5k range for a job done right.

You are not at fault, so it shouldn't go up. Go to 20/20 body repair in Hacienda Height, they are very very good with repairing high end cars. They replaced my driver side fender on my old 1995 and it came out like new. Spend extra $500 to have them repaint the entire front end, the car looked brand new afterwards.

I was an estimator at a local body shop and just left to go to work for an insurance company. This should be handled under a comprehensive loss. You said your deductible is $250. Is that your collision deductible? Usually your comprehensive deductible is lower than the collision. You may have a $250 collision ded with a $100 comp deductible. With a comprehensive loss your premiums should not change and it should not count on your record. It should be a no-fault claim. Key word "should be." You should call state farm and find out. Nothing will count against you if you just ask. What year and color is your car?

It's a MY02 Silverstone. Anyone know a ballpark figure amount without going through insurance I don't want to risk something going onto my record.

No one can tell you about how much it will cost with any accuracy. Just take it to a body shop with a lot of NSX experience. Almost every body shop gives free estimates. After you find out how much it will cost to fix, then decide whether to file an insurance claim on the damage. If you decide to file a claim, let the body shop work with your insurance company on it. (This is part of what body shops do.)

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Ken is correct, that without seeing your car, it's pretty difficult to give you any kind of realistic figure to fix the unfortunate damage.

Your best bet is to find a good body shop with NSX experience and get an estimate from them.

BTW - it is my understanding that in instances such as yours where the damage occured without fault to you that it will not impact your driving record or increase your rates. Depending on your insurance company and how you have your insurance written... you may still be responsible for any deductible.

Again... sorry for your misfortune. I had my NSX less than a month when I got nailed by a big chunck of concrete early in the morning on the 405/5 N. It dented my fender and left three very deep scratches. I ended up getting the dent popped out and used touch up paint for the scratches. It's nowhere near perfect but I was and remain very hesitant to repaint the car.

Good luck.

If you have the means to post some pics of the damage it would help atleast get in the ballpark on an amount. The problem is that with silver it is a harder color to match than lets say black. From where you say the damage is you may need the whole side painted for a correct color match. Not to scare you it is definitely doable but to make it correct this may be what you need. Also it depends if there are dents or not in the panels. Aluminum may be softer than steel but usually shops will charge more to repair aluminum panels than they would a normal steel one. You cannot use a stud gun on an aluminum panel like you can steel and it will stretch easier than steel which means more body labor will be involved to repair a dent. That is if you have a dent which you might have due to aluminum being soft. Like most people have said on here including myself it shouldnt affect your insurance. It should be a comp loss and not affect your premiums. If you would like some more help or info you can feel free to pm me.

I will only reccommend:

MV Designs
1514 N. SUSAN ST #D
Santa Ana, CA 92703
office# 714-554-2727

thats the only place you can go to if you want your car done right the first time.

if you must ask if they have experience in NSX, then the answer is yes.
there are a few NSX getting custom show work done as i type. Many high end show cars and winners come from MV designs. you will not be dissapointed one bit.

Insurance company is to make money out of us. They do keep a record of your claim and it does have an effect on future renewal pricing. I had a similiar situation on another car which resulted 3K in fix just from a smere scratchline in the the front bumper. Next renewal, I noticed my insurance went up a little bit..which I usually get a discount for being a good driver.

Yeah...get an estimate on it....because it might cost you 3K to fix the problem.and you might as well claim it. 3K vs. 250?

yes... i'm leaning towards the insurance. this makes me soo upset that people don't tie these boxes down so they're completely secured. but hey, accidents do happen...

For what it's worth, I recently clipped a deer with the left front. The visible damage was the cracked left headlight cover and a small dent in the aluminum fender behind the bumper ('99 NSX). It "only" cost $2600+ from which my $250 deductible comp reduced the insurance company's payment. State Farm didn't give me any static.

Any damage to your NSX sucks.

I was on the 15 going East on Sunday afternoon. I was in the fast lane , going about 85 mph, when all of a sudden in the lane next to me there was a couch! Yes...a couch. Lucky for me it was in the lane next to me...but it sure sucked for the guy I saw hit it from my rear view mirror.

I know this won't make your incident any better, but be happy you didn't hit a couch...that would have totally sucked!
