Need to replace rubber moulding strip on top of windshield

I'm referring to the black, straight, long rubber piece at the top of the front windshield and I do have the original replacement part. It seems that the current piece will pop right out and I may be able to push in the replacement part in it's place. However, I'm wondering if I need to apply any type of sealent/caulk etc. before putting the new piece in. Any tips will be appreciated!

I am going through this right now. I bought the upper replacement molding, called safelite and setup to get glass replaced. I talked to two different people there, and was very explicit with them about what kind of car we are talking about, 92 NSX, they both said, yes, no problem we have it. Then the morning of, I get a call from the local shop guy, not the national sales dept, saying they don't have it, and can't get it, dealer only...they did a really good job of pissing me off with this deal. I did my part and asked specifics, etc, and it was all set to be done at the dealer..then they screwed me...no fun...Looks like I got to shell out $750 for the dealer glass/ and or insurance claim to help out. Just a heads up out there.

Not a whole lot of glass people are good at replacing the strip and the part it goes into... I just recently had it done in Phx and had Mark Basch set it up as he's familiar with who can do it correctly... ALSO, I would not replace just the top strip without also replacing the portion into which it fits...you replace one, then you replace the other--especially if the top strip has been torn away...No caulk is used with the top strip....Caulk is used to set the bottom portion and when that is pulled out all the old caulk has to be removed......I got the top strip from Niello Acura and Mark got the bottom portion from the local dealer when they convinced me I could not simply replace the top strip....

You would be better off getting both halves of the top w/s molding.
It is a receiver and a outer molding that has a arrowhead design, The top snaps into the bottom.

Note: The peeling stuff on the molding is "spray on" car mask.
The outer molding is on the bottom of the pic and the receiver is on the top of the picture.

Lutera---you are not reading--see my prior posted response--NO caulk is used with the top strip BUT it's not recommended that you just replace that strip. If you also replace the portion into which it fits (the receiver as one person calls it), then that channel has to be thoroughly cleaned before new caulk and the new receiver is placed. The caulk is to seat the receiver not for the top strip... What exactly is wrong with your top strip? Mine had come up partially beginning at the driver's side. A portion of the top strip was still in the receiver at the torn area.. I thought it would be possible to remove that piece from the receiver and just place a new top strip but was warned against trying to do so....

You're correct, I should have read more carefully. FYI, here is problem I'm trying to fix. As you can see, a small piece at the end is broken but the rest is shrunk at various places as well. I think I will try to pry off the top strip carefully and see how easily it comes out. If it resists, I will leave it alone, buy the receiver strip as well and take'm to a glass shop. Thanks for all your help.

The receiver half doesn't look too healthy. I'd replace that if I were you. It doesn't cost very much.

Yes, also, a portion of the top strip where is broke off is likely still down in the receiver and that would have to come out, if you are going to attempt to just replace the top strip. My top strip was in better shape than yours as it had not shrunk... A detailer likely caused my problem.
