hey gang,

i'm buying a set of re-finished 02+ rims and need new tires. does anyone have a set of tires they may have replaced and are still kicking around in their garage? 215/40 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17's are what i require. Looking at new ones and Dunlops here in B.C. mount/balance and taxed are $1650.00. I was curious to what are your preferences for tires. This is the first time i've replaced mine and i am running Dunlop SP Sports on my 91 with '94 rims. They seem ok but i have never been able to compare them to anything else.

thanks for reading,
Aaron

I've checked and Ed's link is good for great prices.

Note to self, lock tyres on car when at Westfest!

I bought my Kuhmo Estca SPT's 215/40 ZR17 last year for my Prelude for around $130 + taxes per tire. Good bang for the buck. I believe the place is called Southern Enterprises in Vancouver. No website and they don't pick up their phone. You have to see them in person for a quote. I don't know if this will work for you since you are in Kamloops.

I got a killer deal for the same brand/model of tires from my NSX from www.tirerack.com Came out to around $850 for 2 pairs of 18's and 2 pairs of 19's shipped, taxes, and all other fees inc.

WTF??? The Goodyear F1 GS-D3, one of the very best tires you can buy - excellent dry traction, excellent in rain, long-lasting - is CAD240 front, CAD286 rear, at 1010tires.com in Richmond BC. And it's CAD237 front, CAD287 rear at Tire Trends in Maple Ridge BC.

Now thats the way I like things said.
You go Nsxtasy!!!

Sorry but the goodyears don't work very well on CANADIAN roads! ( made from recycled goose droppings and the soot from igloo fires!)

thanks for the suggestions everyone, i'll check into them. i hope to have them on for westfest....

As others have already mentioned, order them from TireRack.com if you can. Even with shipping, brokerage and taxes they will be 15-25% cheaper than anything the Canadian dealers can offer you.

$151 and $197 for the Goodyear F1 in the sizes you mentioned. That's $989 at your door Canadian, taxes and everything paid. (that is if you shipping is the same as it would be to my door). Mount and balance should be another $60-80.

I've ordered multiple sets from Tire rack, they show up a few days later by UPS exactly as described and priced. They ship to Canada and have an excellent interactive website complete with stock and pricing.

Tire Trends is a good place to deal with and in Canada.1-877-920-8473. I run Falken Azenis RT 615,s and they seem like an excellent tire. Great grip, predictable at the limit, but like any great tire, they will not get you 20,000km's.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. Since you live close to the border, can't you order the tires from the Tire Rack to be shipped to one of their recommended installers just over the border (e.g. in Blaine or Bellingham), drive down there to have the tires installed, and drive home? Wouldn't that save on duty, brokerage, and taxes?

If you get caught not claiming modifications that you bought in the US, it's a large fine.

Yes - I think they call it "smugling" , sonny , "and around these here parts they don't take too kindly to them there smugglers" (say it to yourself with a southern accent!)

But in all honesty , unless you are retired or unemployed , it's probably not worth your time to drive to the states and back , especially since there are people in canada who can sell you tires for not much more than "tire rack" (who aren't even the cheapest online - BTW)

Do the cheap dealers in Canada have websites that you can mention? The ones I've seen - including the two above, also Talon Tire in QC - are usually substantially more expensive than the Tire Rack.

Also, the Tire Rack is often the cheapest online in the States. Sometimes Discount Tire Direct is cheaper (after accounting for their free shipping), but more often it isn't. I've checked Vulcan, tires-easy, Edge Racing, and onlinetires.com, and found that more often than not, the Tire Rack is cheaper than those, too. If there's a site in the States that is consistently cheaper than the Tire Rack, I haven't found it, but I'd love to hear about it.

From my experinece Tire Rack was the best for price and service. The low or par curency exchange rate helps too. Tires with UPS fees and taxes were under 1000 for OEM 16 and 17 wheels with F1 GS-D3. Awesome tires!

The Blair and Archie at Tire Trends refused to sell me tires because the sizes of the front and rear wheels were not the same.

I am sooo pissed at Yokohama right now. I have one set left and then it's good-bye.

Not to hijack the thread but what's the problem? I always ran Yokohamas on my first NSX when I lived in Scotland. Didn't last long, but I really liked them.

I have used 2 sets of Dunlop SP 9000s and love them. Mine were 265/35/18 and 215/40/17. They aren't cheap, but they are worth it. I've used them on the track and in the twisties (as well as every day - rain included).

Wow! I've had those tires, and absolutely HATED them. They wouldn't grip worth squat, and they squealed like the dickens if you tried pushing them.

Also, those are really OLD tires; they were Dunlop's top of the line way back in the 1990s. Dunlop replaced them several years ago with their current top of the line SP Sport Maxx. And Dunlop now also has a supersticky specialty tire called the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec.

We all need new tires. I've always ran OEM Yokohamas on my 91. I have one set left and then I have no clue what tire to run or what the car will handle like with different tires.

I have a 91 and had Yokohamas until it became close to impossible to get. I am very happy with the ones I have now (see a couple of replies up).

I'm powder coating my 15/16 oem's soon and will need some V rated for those.
It would be nice to see how those original tires ran on our cars.
