Need some opinions on the Type R spoiler

Hey, guys. Need some opinions...my Type R conversion is nearing completion and I have to decide which NSX-R rear spoiler to get from Downforce. The DF-R model has the ends of the legs clipped so they don't stick up above the trunk like the oem Type R piece. The other model is a direct replica of the Type R oem, so the legs stick up a bit. There's no arguing that the DF-R is better aesthetically, since it does not interrupt the lines of the car, but i'm a big believer in having correct oem parts or exact duplicates when oem is unavailable. I like things 'correct,' and since Honda tested the Type R parts in a windtunnel, who's to say there won't be some minor difference in the aerodynamics with a spoiler that's been modified a bit from the original design? I'm sure Honda could have flush-mounted the legs of that spoiler if they wanted to. Help me out and throw some thoughts my way...and any pics would be great for comparison.
TIA boys,

Jon

Hey Turbolexus,

You have impeccable taste & the cleanest NSXs and I really wish I had bought your '91. I would go w/ the DF. Hindsight is 20/20 and I'll bet that if Honda took a look at the DF redesign, they would like it too. Since both parts you are considering are replicas, I think the overall quality (weave pattern) & fitment of the DF wing will be better executed than the other. B/c all your mods are so planned & thought out, I think the DF would be consistent w/ your design philosophy and give your NSX a more finished look. Any wind tunnel gains from the oem design & the differences in drag coefficient vs. the DF aren't going to be noticeable in the real world. Your replica Type-R will always be a replica and it will never be 100% correct anyways, so I don't think the DF would take away from what you are trying to accomplish. Hope this helps. Lets see pics!

I went through this myself and couldn't decide which one to order. I like how the DF-R spoiler is flush but then from a side view, I liked the Type R spoiler.

I chose the Type R spoiler

Matt, should've known to ask you, forgot you had one. Now that i've studied pics of both...the DF-R is circumsized! Going with the replica of Mother Honda's piece. Jonny, i'm 'Lex Luthor' on CL, but you will not find me there. QWKSLVR, thx man, cool of you to say.

Turbolex, I have the real JDM Honda rear spoiler, I am in NJ so if you want to come and see it you are more than welcome. If I had to do it all over again I would save the $6000, and get the downforce nsx-r replica spoiler. Frank

The Downforce NSX-R spoiler is pretty damn closeto OEM. I compared mine with Frank's and didnt really notice any differences. Fit and Finish and superb.

That's what I was looking for...thx guys. Frank man...been meaning to head out your way. My brother/sister in law are near to you, going to take the car out there soon and we'll meet up. 'pbassjo' is finishing up my Type R conversion, should be done in a few days. Mike I know I missed nsxday but i'll make it up to you brother.

Jon, get the real type R version from DF. You are right, the ends of the other one make it look stubby. I would also bet there are aerodynamic differences. I have the DF type R spoiler and I have to tell you it was a perfect fit. Quality on the piece is excellent.
