I am going to raise my car 0,5" since the front spolier is scraping WAY too much... I was always saying: "It is a 100$ part, who cares, I can always change it!".

That is true but the car looks ruined (ok, for my very attentive eyes
wink.gif
) in between spoiler changes/repaintings!

After having it raised I will have the front spoiler repainted, now the question:
should I paint it sebring silver again or black (not the plastic otiginal black, but a shiny one like the OEM one). I like the silver look but it is a little too aftermarket (it gives a "layered" look to the car, if somebody understand what I mean).
Black is more OEM and shiny black will look very clean when polished!

Please, let me know!

For information, here is the actual photo:

Black. The origial look is still valid, and painting it silver does look 'add-on' up close. I have the WW spoiler, and it is a love/hate relationship. I love the way it looks from the front, hate the way it sticks out, at the bottom, from the side.

I think you undesrtood what I meant!

Look at my photo and you see all those horizontal black lines that "adds up"!
On a black car it look way cleaner of course.

It would be nice to have one single part for the lower bumper and the spoiler (but it would be terrible in case of scraping).

You are right, the black one would disappear and probably be cleaner. What about the shiny black against the dull black?

It is a trade-off, black makes the bottom lip of the front spoiler look too thin, silver looks good from far-away, but looks add-on up close. I still have not seen an aftermarket spoiler that looks right, either. I am considering painting the crossbar in the center inlet black, to give the car a larger looking mouth, which seems more up-to-date.

I agree. Even if you paint it gloss black, it won't stay shiny for very long. I assume that's why they don't paint it in the first place.

Hi Major Stoner,
I have painted the crossbar black, and it does look better. It makes it look more aggressive and up-to-date. I was initially considering to possibly cut out the crossbar, since it actually doesn't seem to have any real function, other than for looks, but painting was a much better solution. I couldn't stand the thought of butchering my car like that. I've made it so that everything I've done to my car (painted front, top, mesh side scoops, mesh engine cover, shift knob, fog lamps, DVD, aftermarket pedals, 17/18" wheels and tires, cone intake), can be changed back to stock. I'll post pics when I can.

That's an interesting way of looking at it... considering that the NS-X (as it was then punctuated) prototype that was shown on the show car circuit in 1989 did not have the cross-bar.

Please do!

P.S. How much was your mesh engine cover and where did you get it?

Of course it will remain lowered!
biggrin.gif

Mine is WAY too low, it is about 1cm lower than most other lowered NSXs.
I touched with the flat underbody a couple times (and I was careful
frown.gif
) so it is a no choice.

I maybe will try the shiny black spoiler and see how it holds.
People that painted the crossbar: how was that part painted alone? It is not separable from the rest of the bumper... do you see the painting line between the body color and the black paint?

why do you keep referring to a shiny black spoiler as original? the original was not shiny nor was it painted. it was an unpainted black plastic piece. it was only shiny if you used something like meguiers on it. if you paint it, you're in for the same woes you're having now if you still bottom it out after raising your car.

robr,
yes I know it was unpainted plastic. I will have it painted shiny black (this way the small black chips that appears while scraping will be less noticeable than on sebring silver, not invisible I know).

By raising the car I will reduce the damage furthermore. What I am trying to achieve is a better solution than the currect one, not the best overall

Thanks DON, I like them too.

Acutaully they are wheel adapter. In the back they are custom fabricated in Germany (40mmm
eek.gif
!) and in the front 25mm, widely available, from H&R. I think pronto3000 can adress you if you are looking for some.

I say black. Semi-gloss black "plastic" like the factory appearance.

I also think that removing the center bar or painting the center bar (infinitely better, BTW) makes the front end look taller and gives it a gaping mouth.

The visual effect of the center bar makes the car look lower, wider IMHO.

If you are going to black out the center bar....don't cut it out. Just paint the silly thing. The ones I've seen that were cut look like crap at the cut lines.

Sorry for the late response, Michigan NSX.
My buddy, "Chromotose" Mike Niday, and I fashioned it from the existing engine cover per instructions from the DIY. Initially, it took quite a long time for me to do it without the appropriate tools. Fortunately, Mike has a cornucopia of tools, and once I met up with him, it was pretty quick.

Hi Gheba,
Yes, you can see the painting line between the body color and the black paint, but my painter did an excellent job of making it look like it was intentional from the factory.

I agree Jimbo. The cars that have had the cross bar cut out did not look very good. That's what ultimately influenced me to paint it instead. Besides, it'll be much easier to go back to stock, should I decide to sell the car.

I will be happy to post pictures, perhaps in the Picture Gallery Forum. How do I post them up there? I use photos.yahoo.com, but there seems to be problems with posting pictures here from yahoo. I while ago, Lud graciously offered to post them for me if I email it to him, but I'd hate to waste his time with a bunch of pictures if it's something I can do myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
J.

I am not familiar with photos.yahoo.com However, I know that with most photo storage services, the problem in posting them is that each photo is on an album page. The problem is that you don't want to use the URL (website address) for the album page after the
; what you want to use is the website address for the picture itself. You can find this by putting your cursor over the photo, right mouse click, and click on "Properties". Try that.
