Can anyone tell me how to get the vinyl covered trim piece ( knee bolster ) located around the steering wheel, which rests on the bottom of the instrument panel, it also contains the ignition key hole, off the car. I have taken off the two screws which attatch the plastic piece, which contains the driver side footwell light and the two screws that hold the bolster in place. I cannot get the piece unattatched from the bottom of the instrument panel though. How do I do this ? I want to take the piece off to get the vinyl re-glued as it is coming off. Thanks for any advice.

The manual is your friend. Check, I think, the body? section, and it tells you how to get everything in the dash apart.

I downloaded the whole thing, even with a 56k, gettting a chapter a night after I hit the bed, and it has saved my butt a few times. (Note: if making a copy is illegal, I am delirious and a pathalogical liar)

Mine came unglued right around the ignition, and I just stuck it back in and it stayed. I also thought about using some type of clear adhesive on the edge that wouldn't be seen, and stuffing it back in hoping the adhesive would stick, wiping off any excess, but didn't have to. might save you a dismantle...

Page 20-44 of the Service Manual shows two screws and two clips for the knee bolster pad, and six screws for the bolster itself. I think you are trying to remove the pad - try wiggling the clips at the top of the pad while pulling the pad away from the dashboard.

It's a pain to pull out

Mine is laying in the footwell of my car. You have the two screws out at the bottom and now you have to pull hard. There are pull out clips at the top which are a pain to pull loose. Pull at top right close to the ignition portion and then pull at the area just to the left of the steering wheel as you face it and voila it will come free. I suppose there may be a nice padded tool or you could cover a screwdriver well and pry but I just used strength to pull it free (Owww did I break a nail:D )

Thanks Guys. I was afraid to pull, because when I did the bottom of the clear plastic covering the intruments felt like it wanted to come out as well. I did not want to break anything ( $$$). I feel reassured now and will give it another go. :)

Echo the above advice - I too was tenuous before I read procedure in the manual - mine was really tight in there & I was sure I was missing a fastener or not pulling in the right direction.
It helps to see the layout too, so you know where the clips are. Once last detail - you want to pull it straight out towards you, not at any angle. I recall I just focussed on one side at a time, rather than try to pull the whole thing out in one go.

Yes, as I said--I started at the right and then went to the left of the steering wheel and pulled the left half free from between the steering wheel coluumn area and the bolster--do not pull from the extreme left side----I took mine off to get to the Brightness Control better and did not want to put it back on until I knew I did not have to replace it the Brightness control...

I finally got it off. Patience, Patience, Patience ... I don't think Honda could have made it more difficult. I thought at times the gauge cluster was going to come off with the bolster. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated. :)
