situation:
1) battery died
2) so tried to use a battery charger and every time I tried charging it with the prongs on there the alarm would go off
3) so i disconnected one of the cables that was connected to the battery
4) charge the battery alone
5) when battery was charge I tried puting the cable back on, and the alarm still went off.

I called the company that installed the alarm system and they said I had to go to the brain of the viper alarm system and disconnect it, so I can put the battery on.

My question is to you all, if theres another way I could do this. This is ridiculous everytime theres now power they said the alarm will reset itself and go off when power is applied to it.

Gokwi,

Not sure it is so ridiculous, I guess it is a matter of perspective. If someone cut your battery wire, reconnected it, and stole your car that would be pretty bad right??

Just like my 1998 Accord with a CD player. If you disconnect the battery, the radio/CD will not work after that. You must go to the dealer and have them enter a special code based on the radio serial number, to enable the radio again. Ridiculous, maybe, but my radio is more likely to be there when I get in the car

hi,

when you go to put the cable back on the battery have your remote in hand and disarm it that way. then securely fasten cables to battery post. hope this helps.

I agree with Jchin...you may get blasted by the siren for a second or though, but that what I had to do...it will even help if a second person is around that can press the button right when you connect it.

I've got a viper in my winter beater, depending on the unit... with battery cables removed, insert key into ignition turn to on position (just before crank) then connect your battery terminals. I know this works on my Viper alarm. But it depends on the Viper model... give it a try let us know if that works. Hey beats hitting your head off the hood! :-)

I just installed a UNGO (Clarion) alarm in my NSX but installed a Challenger battery maintainer (so far 4 months no dead batt problems!), so I don't know what would happen if I try the same thing there, I guess I should read the owner's manual...
