Hello to all NSX Members,

Well I am new to the NSX forum and have posted a little bit but need some local help. It looks as though I might be dropping the Hammer on purchasing a fellow members NSX. Since it is an out of state car and I am still hashing out the details on how to get it here and I am trying to get all of my numbers straight so I can make sure I can afford this deal.

Here is my question: I would like to find out the if anyone here (Local So. Cal) has bought a car out of state? If you have, please let me know what the process is on how you registered your NSX.

Second question: Since I have to register it here in California, and I know I have to smog it, does anyone know of a shop or does anyone lend out cats to pass smog? Your help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to your help.

Thank you and I hope to be rolling very soon! PM me details if you are local to the L.A or O.C area.

I purchased my nsx from Ohio, registration involves a smog inspection, an inspection at the DMV (an inspector briefly makes sure the VIN plate matches the title), and the payment of California sales tax, and registration fees - required documents include a bill of sale, and the out of state title. As long as your car passes a smog it's a hassle-free process.

I am not aware of any shop that lends out catalytic converters for a smog inspection... you will need to source a pair of replacements, the most attractive option are these, from dali racing:
http://daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=1113

these are carb certified, and other members have passed CA smog with them installed.

I took my nsx to a place recommended by autowave, called 'EZ smog' in Huntington Beach.

Are you looking at Brandon's car?

Hey John,

Yes, I am looking at Brandons car. I am getting anxious, and I am trying to get all of my ducks in a row. Once I saw it, I wanted it....It is tastefully done and it replicates what I would do to it if I had to start with a basic stock NSX. I am trying to get everything taken care of and would be traveling out there to pick it up. I was looking at transporting it from there to here, but the cost is a little high. I was quoted $1,395 and that is just adding to the cost. I am working with a decent budget, but again, I have to factor in the cost of the car as well as DMV fees and also smog.

Since his car has no cats and only the test pipes, I will need to see if I can find anyone who might be willing to help me out by borrowing their cats until I can buy a set for future smogs. Again, I have a budget and I have to stay with in those confines or I will not be able to afford it and have to let it go. (Hopefully not.)

I am selling my Air Suspension for my Lexus to help pay for this and I know that will not sell right away so I am trying my hardest to make all of this happen.

Cheers, and I was looking forward to seeing and meeting you all at the meet, but come to find out it was cancelled for this month. I really wanted to see if someone would give me a ride (A fix basically..hahaha) in theirs so I can get these butterflies out of my stomach.

Cheers,

Angel,

Brandon's nsx is a clean car at heart... he purchased it stock while in Germany:

It's also well-maintained, with extensive recent service... this being said, several of the aesthetic modifications are questionable, see this thread:

It could be a good starting place to work from, but, if it were my car, I would re-do a number of the items he has worked on (spoiler, wheels, interior come to mind). Are you sure he does not have his stock catalytic converters on hand? I remmeber glancing at his FS ad, I remember a mention of stock parts.

If you're interested in seeing some nsx's there is always the Ford PAG meet in Irvine, Cars & Coffee... typically 6-8 nsx's will show up. This is right off the I-5, near the Irvine Spectrum, here:
7905 Gateway Blvd., Irvine, CA, 92618

Every Saturday starting at ~7:30AM, ending around 9AM.

Thanks for the info, although it is a nice platform to work from. I will be adding my personal touches if I am able to seal the deal. I know that there are a few mods that I would like to do, but for the most part, I would be using it as the way it is for a little while. Once in my hands and when the funds are more avaliable I will add my touches to it to personalize it my way, and the rims will more then likely be one of my first changes as I would like to put on a set of staggered 18/19 set up with fatter tires. I still need to know what is the largest I would be able to put on the front and the rear as well as tire sizes. I would love to put a set of 295/25 on the rear like my GS but I think that might be over kill and I am not sure they would fit either. After that, I would definately put a full BBK set up on it as well.

I am not certain about the fitment body kit as I am still researching it as well. I am also talking things over with my wife about it and what I can afford. It is a well maintained vehicle from my understanding and he has all of the records of the services done, so I am certain that the motor is sound. If I am able to seal the deal, I would more then likely drive it back from MO to my house...I guess it will be a nice road trip.

Hey, by the way, I noticed that you have the car SC now? How is that going? Did you have to do anything to the motor to handle the FI? Are you running stock internals?

Thanks and sorry for the winded replys.

Cheers,

I had the supercharger installed the week of Christmas, I am still working some bugs out of the system, but it has certainly made the car more enjoyable to drive. The system is designed to output 0.5 bar of boost, and it is designed to bolt onto a stock engine.

I had intended to go to the last PAG meet, but unfortunatly slept in... given this month's SCA meet is cancelled I will definitly attend the PAG meet this Saturday morning.
